Wrestlemania #8: Would Hogan vs. Flair Have Been Better?

We got a classic in Savage vs. Flair, but would Hogan vs. Flair have been better? As big as it would have been, I’m thinking no.  The problem with it would have been Hogan getting the win, which would be anticlimactic, especially since he was considering retirement.  The match we got was going to be hard enough to top so it’s hard to complain.

What was the reason they didn’t go with Hogan/Flair? I do think Savage/Flair was probably the better option since Hogan was on his way out until the following year anyway. Classic Match though from Macho Man & Ric Flair.

I agree, Flair vs Hogan would’ve been more epic (had it been built up properly), but looking at both men’s performances the night of WM8, if Hogan would’ve came into a match with Flair like he did with Sid, we would’ve received a lackluster match to be sure. With hindsight being 20/20, Flair vs. Savage was the better way to go.

Flair vs. Hogan would have been more epic in terms of fans getting the match they always dreamed about. But better? No. With Hogan leaving, I don’t think WWE wanted him to beat someone with potential to be a good draw in the company with Flair. Plus Savage vs. Flair had the advantage of both men continuing the feud past WrestleMania into the rest of 1992. This is one time when a missed opportunity was a good thing because Hogan still got his “retirement” match and Savage and Flair put on the match of the night which had the extra bonus of launching the entire main event picture of 1992.
