Criticize Me

I can always use some criticism/suggestions so what do you want to see me do more/less of from here on out?  Is there something I do too much of or not enough of?  Let me know if there is or isn’t so I can try to make some adjustments if need be.

And no I won’t be doing more puro, at least not on a regular basis.  I just don’t care enough.

Stop typing ‘let that sink in for a minute’ in your reviews.

I love your PPV reviews and ratings. It would be great to see a section with WWE, WCW, etc PPV’s and matches ranked by your grading, maybe something like top 50 or 100. Since getting WWE Network, it’s nice to see suggestions on PPV’s or matches that I might not have seen before but would be recommended to view.

I agree on the Wrestler of the Day feature–my favorite part is the summation at the end of what you liked about the guy/girl and what their role was in wrestling. I think having more of that and less just picking out match recaps (particularly when the wrestler is not the main focus of the match, like a lot of gimmick/lowcarders) would make them more interesting to read. Perhaps like picking out “their best match” and “worst match” or a “guilty pleasure” match? Maybe even like a “what if?” feature where you imagine how their careers might change.

Some thoughts and ideas that haven’t been mentioned:

    – In the review overview, a chronological show order (additionally to alphabetical).would be nice.
    – “Review The Review” is pretty unnecessary for TV shows I think. Keep it to PPVs and very important TV shows.
    – The “Wrestler Of The Day” section could be better if you’d just ocassionally give your opinion a a wrestler “I want to talk a little bit about” style. A bit more in-depth than in the WOTD-conclusion: the potential you see in a current guy, how they could be mixed up, what people overlook, how legends should’ve been handled differently etc. . Matches possibly as examples, not as the main part.
    – I’d like to see a “Year In Review”-column, where every week or so you review a specific year starting 50 (or 40 or 30) years ago. 1984 might be fine. Basically like the End Of The Year awards, maybe with a chronological recap, lke month-to-month.Who is wrestler of the year, match, angle, show, surprise, runner-ups and so on.
    – The grades: I think you overhype stuff that you watch live a bit too much. It’s natural that matches and shows seem better when you don’t know the outcome and surprises actually surprise you, but try to account for it a bit more. When you redo a show you reviewed live before you notice this. This might be subjective, but in your 90’s reviews it seems like a B is a rare occurance while now anything below is kind of a letdown. It might have to do with today’s shock style where every finisher kickout brings a match a grade step up and without it a match feels pretty empty (this could be thought of the day stuff 😉 ). I think we agree that HIAC wasn’t a good show. I looked it up back then and don’t remember the details, but if I remember correctly not even ten WCW PPVs got a higher grade than that C+.
    – TV shows: It seems like you just go from D+ to B- anymore. Use your scale. It’s not insulting if you throw out the occasional F (or A).

Oh, I read the puro line and don’t want to annoy you, but will you review tomorrow’s show?

Chronological as well as something else I have in mind is on my list of things to do. It just takes awhile to get through.

Reviewing the Review is there for shows I can’t pause when I want, meaning Raw and PPV. Smackdown I watch in advance so there’s no need. Raw is going so fast that I have usually take care of other things during commercials so the extra review lets me get a bit more in depth.

That Year in Review is quite the idea. I might do that at some point.

I do indeed hype stuff up too much. That goes back to the Reviewing the Review idea. I’ve had more of a chance to let it settle in and think about it.

      This is true.

The Dome show……erg I knew someone was going to bring that up. I probably will at some point but it won’t be anytime in the near future.

In addition to the Year in Review, you could also write a series of articles regarding the history of wrestling. It may be quite tough, as most of the matches/wrestlers/promotions from the 80s onward is well known, but there is very little information before that.

It’s already been touched on but what got me on this site in the first place was your I want to talk a little bit about articles. Even though we don’t always agree you obviously have a good grasp on wrestling and those articles brought something different to the site and quite frankly most were just a joy to read.

The live chat idea is great and would most likely bring a lot of extra traffic.

I’m not sure how good you are with videos but it’s something that could be a good idea. Your reviews are good but they can often drag, having a 3 minute video for reviews could bring in extra visitors. If not then a short version of the review would be good too. Have the full one like always but a compact version that quickly touches on the matches, interviews, and moments would be cool. I know you kind of do that at the end of each review but a short 1-2 page review would be sweet.

Coming from someone who has worked in web design sometimes navigating can be a bit daunting. Don’t get me wrong, with the amount of content you have its not bad or anything but it could be tightened up a bit.

Overall though I think you do an excellent job. You seem to be self aware of areas to improve and you want your site to be even better than it is. Keep up the good work KB.

    • Thomas Hall says:

The worst part is I have a list of topics on the top of my big file for the site of I Want To Talk A Little Bit About’s to do but I’m too lazy to do them.

The live chat is a possibility that I might look into someday but that’s basically what Ask KB is for. It’s a possibility though.

Video is pretty much a no as I’m very camera shy. Audio….maybe but I wouldn’t bet on it.

The navigation I’ve been looking into and I have something I’m going to be trying at some point this year to work on it.

      Thanks for the help.

Your grammar/spelling really need proper proofreading before you post stuff, and you use the word “anymore” out of its proper usage wayyyyyy too often. Also, over the last year you’ve started to divert from being a review site and more of just a recap of stuff that happened. Aeon Mathix I think it was said something similar in a comment a while ago and I agree with them on what they said, but I’d make more of a notion that your occasional articles on this site just talking about stuff are the best things on here, and you should explore methods of bringing those thoughts through to your reviews.

    • Thomas Hall says:

These are common issues I’ve had and I really do need to tighten them up.

You and Aeon Mathix are absolutely right on the recap stuff. I’ve been noticing it for awhile too and I’ve been trying to get back into the more opinion stuff in the last little bit. It’s not as easy on live shows like Raw and PPVs, which in theory is what Reviewing the Review was supposed to make up for. I’m hoping that ending Wrestler of the Day is going to help with this as that was eating up WAY too much of my time/energy.

The general consensus seems to be post more articles etc. I’ll try to get more of those up.

Not to kiss your ass or anything, but honestly I can’t think of one complaint right now.

  8. Killjoy says:

Probably less news bits and stuff going in shows like title changes. You can save those full columns or reviews.

  9. Aeon Mathix says:

I would like to see a lot more columns. The ones you have been doing are great and sometimes there is only so much to talk about.

I saw someone else do this and it would be cool if like once a week or something you would do a live chat session on your site. Like a designated time slot just to discuss things with everyone for an hour or so. Not a video but something like putting up an instant messaging section for said times. I think your site would get some great traffic from it and thete is probably kinks to that but its a good starting point.
