Thought of the Day: It’s Not the Size of the Fight In The Dog. It’s The Size of the Doghouse

Shock and awe, this is about NXT.Before I get into this, let me make it clear that I’ve said this before too, dating back as recently as about 11 hours ago.

A lot of fans want the NXT guys to get onto the main shows so they can fix all the boring problems.  Here’s the thing: it doesn’t matter what the guys are capable of.  Do you really think a lot of the guys on the main roster couldn’t be competitive with people like Zayn and Neville as far as work rate etc?  NXT works because of the workers there, but arguably even more because of the atmosphere they’ve developed down there.

If the rosters were flipped, you would see the NXT guys cut off at the knees and the WWE guys getting to show off.  The Divas would go from tearing the house down to three minute matches centered around stupid concepts and lame pranks.  This assumption that it’s just the talent dragging WWE down doesn’t hold, no matter what people want to think.

For God’s sake, Bo Dallas was a GREAT heel in NXT, now he’s lucky if they’ll have him in the Andre Battle Royal at WM31. Oh, and Emma is already non-existant on the main roster, Ascension has already been treated like a joke…want me to go on?

Sorry, meant to say Prince Devitt, just because I can’t recall how they spell his new name.

I would hope what KB is saying here would be obvious to most fans. Is there really a significant amount of people claiming this? Vince McMahon is in charge of booking on the main roster. Vince doesn’t like small people. Match quality means almost nothing to him. Prince Nevitt and Kevin Steen are among the very best in the world, but on the main roster they would simply be lunchmeat for Kane. Surely nobody wants to see that.

Great coaching can often make up for sub par talent but great talent can’t make up for sub par coaching. Until WWE has the right coach running their main show it’s pretty much impossible for any of their problems to get fixed, it really doesn’t matter which players are on that team.

They could have Hogan, Rock, Sammartino and Austin in their primes on that roster and it wouldn’t change a damn thing, great talent can only mask shitty coaching for so long.
