This is a very Japanese concept in just having a tournament for the sake of having a tournament. That means it could be very fun if the talent is good and there a lot of talented guys in the field. My major question is anyone in the field that isn’t currently on NXT or WWE TV A) Have legit shot at winning B) Are going to be introduced to TV through the tournament and given a push. This would be the perfect way to get a guy like Ibushi over with fans as he is foreign and lacks the legacy of Itami and the charisma of Nakamura. Also a great way to make Sabre Jr a big deal. To be honest I would have fixed the taping schedule so that the finals were at NXT Takeover Brooklyn between those two guys.

    So many questions

How does winning a meaningless tournament with no storylines help a guy with no charisma get over with WWE (referring to your Ibushi comment)?

Good thing you’re wrong about his charisma.

I will clarify. Ibushi is just a flat machine in the ring. He is a five tool player, blue chipper kind of talent and for my money is as good as Okada, Tanahashi, and Nakamura when he was NJPW. I don’t find him to be that charismatic but I have only seen half a dozen matches of his so maybe it’s just a small sample size.

Anyway treating this tournament like a big deal and letting him show off in 5 great matches would do a great deal towards getting him past that language barrier if he is indeed going to stick around NXT after the tournament.
