I was looking at a RAW review from when they had the tournament after Rollins got injured. Two of the first round match-ups: Ziggler/Miz and Sheamus/Cesaro. Lazy and sad.

I think you nailed the big problem on the head with the general sameness of Cesaro and Sheamus. The Booker T best of 7s with Benoit worked because they both worked such well rounded styles and the series had much more time elapse between each match. Heck they even ran an injury angle to get Orton in to replace Booker and win the series only for Benoit to win the actual blow off match at No Way Out. This series would really suit long time rivals Cesaro and Sami Zayn better than Sheamus as the matches would at least be diverse.

Unfortunately the amount of programming makes this near impossible. But I do agree. I’m honestly ok with some jobbers coming back so the ‘stars’ can still be seen but the big matches are saved

That’s why I loved the Hulkamaina era because The big stars would only fight each other on Saturday Night’s Main Event or 1 of the 4 PPVs back in the day It worked out in such a way people wouldn’t get burnt out by repetitive matches with the same wrestlers time after time.
