If they cut Raw to 2 hours (it works for Smackdown), and got rid of matches on preshow, would that make things better you think? Raw used to be 2 hours and preshows used to just be countdown showns reiewing backstories on card and doing promos. That seemed to make the big cards a lot better.
You know KB I agree with most of your views on the product but here I disagree with you….I see no problem with a 4 hr. card for the BIG ppv’s. It makes them feel like they should be, like they used to before the 12 ppv a year started. I have been watching WWF/WWE for 29 years now and when I feel I have had enough I just shut it off…maybe don’t have matches on the pre-show, they are not needed, or introduce a TV title and have only that defended on tv or preshow…..I don’t know, I just believe it provide more variety for people to watch and as an adult I believe you can pick and choose what you want to watch….if you are burning out, then stop watching.
The following is the result of a lot of people saying something similar to me so please don’t take this personally.
I’m getting really tired of this “then stop watching” response. Yes, I have criticisms of WWE and the way they present their product. I don’t think anyone is finding their shows perfect but for this one issue the solution is “then stop watching”. I want WWE to be the best they can and I really don’t see how adding another hour to pay per view is the solution. If someone criticizes something, it doesn’t mean they need to cut it off entirely. No one would ever watch anything at that rate. I want it to be better and this “then stop watching” line is a really lame way of thinking about anything.
I’m not wild on the extra hour because it dilutes the show. It doesn’t mean I’m burned out or hate it or that I’m no longer a fan. I really don’t get why those are the conclusions people arrive at and it’s getting really old.
I hear ya KB and I was speaking more to the fans and not someone who has to watch because it’s their job. I take no offense, it is just what I would do. I just like to see the Big 4 ppv’s set apart from the rest.
I get that too, but at the same time there’s a breaking point where the shows are oversaturated. A lot of that has to do with Raw being three hours. It makes regular pay per views feel less important but adding another hour makes the special ones a bit too long.
Take Wrestlemania for instance. Undertaker vs. Shane and Reigns vs. HHH were long for the sake of being long and that’s not good. How many of these four hour shows have actually been good or even really memorable? It’s pretty rare and that’s not a good sign.
