I like that the commentators were so dumb they didn’t even mention it could’ve been a fake sting that came out and that his run out and hitting Show meant absolutely nothing to the finish.

“Rodman is in sunglasses here. He stalls like Larry Zbyszko dreams of and they lock up. Rodman gets an armdrag and the reaction from the announcers (the WCW ones mind you, as in the ones that HATE the NWO) makes the one when Sting won the title later in the year pale in comparison. I mean they lose their minds because Rodman hit an armdrag. Luger armdrags both guys twice and the overreaction is just stupid. Have these guys never seen a Ricky Steamboat match? This is proving why the match is stupid, right here.”

    lmao

I think there’s more good stuff then bad, just my opinion, anything to do with Piper I can do without but the Eddie heel turn, DPP – Macho, Sting, Luger Giant and nWo was all very good.

There’s infinitely more crap on TNA and WWE on todays T.V, more so WWE but TNA is starting to really suck hard at the minute, wrestling needs a kick up the arse but I can’t see a peak for at least a decade.

Looks like your a bit of a internet warrior….

Anyway, with that last reply you are throwing the “discussion” to favour you points. 1997 wasn’t ALL rodman, there’s some great stuff from WCW in 1997, I wasn’t/aren’t a fan of the Rodman stuff but understand why they did it and people where into it bit time.

We all have opinions which is what makes forums, ahem, great places to discuss things, I look forward to reading more reviews.

Ignoring the fact that this isn’t a forum, that’s true. Also, I’m up to September in the Nitro reviews from 1997. I’m well aware there’s other stuff there, a good deal of which sucked also.

The “nose dive” you describe didn’t really happen until 2000, it was more of a steady decline (if we are talking ratings) from around mid-1999, people assume WCW died mid-1998 when in fact WWF just got massive mid-1998.

Anti-WCW is correct, been reading these reviews with disbelief, I’ve got a lot of WCW PPV’s and some are awful I agree but some are awesome.

The Rodman stuff propelled WCW in the ratings, shortly after this they were getting 4’s while WWF were getting 2’s.

    • Thomas Hall says:

WCW wasn’t nosediving in 1999? Alright good to see what I’m dealing with here.

Second, and most importantly as well, show me where it says I’m unbiased or am required to be so. I thought 1997 WCW sucked from a quality standpoint and it’s rather hard to argue it unless you’re some kind of a schmuck that feels the need to try to argue that Dennis Rodman being treated like Karl Gotch for using an armdrag was a good idea. The fact that WCW was dominating in the ratings does not in any way mean they were a quality product. WWF was dominating in 1999 with some of the worst shows in wrestling history, but I’m sure that’s just my bias right?

  7. Brillyunt says:

Also, Mysterio was injured and Malenko was in Japan.

  8. Brillyunt says:

These reviews are so anti-wcw, hindsights a wonderful thing.

These match-ups did make sense as they’d been built up on Nitro for weeks, go back and watch the shows before just saying they don’t make sense.

    • Thomas Hall says:

I’m going to assume you’re new around here because A, I’ve done the majority of the Nitros in 1997 already. B, just because something is hyped up on Nitro doesn’t make them logical. Having two basketball players wrestle in the main event of a PPV is a bad idea no matter how you slice it. But hey, I’m sure the company nose diving about a year after this was COMPLETELY unrelated to these decisions right’?

  9. Your Eternal Reward says:

I wonder how many times you’ve used the line ‘And people wonder why this company went out of business’ While reviewing WCW events.
