Thought of the Day: Who Are You Again?

This is something that isn’t a problem for some but is for others. What do Tazz, Jerry Lawler and JBL all have in common?

Among other things, they’re all commentators who used to be world champion.  Why do we rarely hear about this?  JBL is the only one to hold a world title or even be a full time wrestler in the last ten years and we barely ever hear about his accomplishments.  How many fans do you think know Jerry Lawler was world champion in the AWA?  Most young fans probably just know him as some old guy who won’t shut up.  Mention that he’s a former world champion and that he beat a Hall of Famer in Curt Hennig to win the belt, or that he’s held over 100 titles in his career.  It would make people care more.  The same is true for Taz as he’s basically a younger and louder Lawler.

I hope it’s because someone read this blog entry, but on tonight’s Raw, JBL and Lawler’s title accomplishments were stressed a bit.

    100 titles is ridiculous.

It’s easier when You own the organzation you work in. not saying he didnt Deserve them. it just helps. i thought it was 300 titles.

I’ve noticed JBL’s accomplishments have been mentioned by Cole recently. I agree with you on Lawler and Taz though.

Michael Cole has pointed out on several occasions whether JBL has beaten or lost to someone. He pointed out JBL lost an “I Quit” Match to Cena during the one Swagger and Del Rio had.

Great idea. JBL mentions his career on occasion, usually for joke purposes, but they could play up the fact he was one of the longest-reigning WWE Champions more (I think of all the WWE commentators, the only one many young people have actually seen win a match might be Michael Cole).
