Looking at WWE commentary screwing up Ascension. Hopefully this gets it out of my system.

I never watched NXT so the past two weeks have been my introductory to The Ascension.
To be frank they look horrible. I don’t buy them as vicious psychos, they come off as wannabes and try hards with their constant obnoxious screaming. But the biggest problem I have with them is just how green they look. They looked WAY out of their league against Miz/Mizdow, botching move after move. They belong in an indy circuit somewhere in Oklahoma, not in the WWE.
Apparently Lance Storm and Animal found the LOD bit disrespectful and threw fits online.
The burial on commentary didn’t piss me off as much as making them a bunch of Demolition/L.O.D. ripoffs. No matter how great they wind up being they’ll never live up to that.
No they won’t be but there’s nothing wrong with saying you’re going to be better. A good commentary team would say something like “I saw the Road Warriors and Demolition in their primes but this team could be bigger and stronger than those two ever were.”
Yeah some fans will never buy it, but it’s going to do more good than having the commentators rip them apart and laugh at them.
I guess the plan was to make The Ascension come across as heels, saying that they were better than the teams of yore. The announcers were to put that fact across by saying that the team was in way over their heads.
What they perhaps didn’t realize is that they went TOO far in their dissing so much so that they buried the team completely. It didn’t come across as the team being in over their heads, it came across as the team being stupid and a joke. That’s where the problem lies I guess.
That said, The Ascension still need a lot more mileage and exposure on the main roster to be taken seriously. They are a team that relies on domination and quick matches. But there will come a time when they will have to put up good, PPV length matches, now that they are on the main roster.
