” One of the best matches of the night here despite being an exercise in how long can we stay in Memphis before Page comes back and pins Page. ”

    lol

“Everything breaks down and Shaggy and Vampiro HORRIBLY botch something like a 3D with Vampiro sitting instead of falling and Shaggy losing his grip on Eddie, turning it into more of an assisted backdrop than anything else.”

I missed the legdrop but the botched 3d looked like it messed up Eddie’s neck as he was moving a lot slower after that. When the icp dude came down with it looked he kind of snapped his neck the wrong way.

Also, he was a godsend for those who live for pole matches. And for fans who think 3 months is way too long for a World title reign. Plus, Russo was the only guy who could take the concept of a worked shoot and make it a mundane, weekly occurance.

I understand what you’re saying. But for me Russo went beyond boring. His garbage genuinely offended me, and almost nothing offends me. Of course it’s like comparing Al Qaeda to ISIS.

How could you be insulted by the great Undertaker has forgotten wrestling is fake and that he really isn’t the Undertaker storyline? Or that Beaver, semi-incest one (what is it with people named Vince and incest storylines)? Or the two miscarriage storylines?

The only thing I think Russo was very good at was making sure a majority of the roster had something to do.

Hey, at least Benoit beat Sid for the title at Souled Out! That’s got to count for something, right?

    ….

It was too little too late, wasn’t it?

Very, very well written review, fun to read and painfully accurate. Although I must disagree with one statement: Somehow, WCW actually managed to get even worse when Russo (how weird is it that the two individuals that did more to ruin pro wrestling than every other cretin who was responsible for some negative aspect in the business combined were both named Vince?) came aboard.
I feel your pain; I still get angry when I think back to some of the more damaging, insulting incidents also. Brian Knobbs pinning Dean Malenko is a fine example. Almost as bad as The Nasty Boys getting pushed in TNA in 20 and freaking 10. Yes, Dixie, why not hire Hogan, Bischoff, and Russo? Give those three crazy kids a shot! I’m still surprised AJ Styles didn’t drop the TNA strap days after these mental midgets arrived, to, maybe, I don’t know, Hacksaw Duggan.

Of course when Russo gets in there is when you’ll start having No DQ matches that end in DQs lol

  8. whosnext98 says:

“I cannon imagine things actually getting worse than this.”

Remember how many times you’ve said this since you started reviewing 1999? Now ponder, if you wheeeeel, what’s happened every time you’ve said that 🙂

I have never heard you so angry at a show in my time reading your material. Even with Starrcade 1997, the feeling I got was you explaining how you felt after witnessing a disaster. But you know what? This felt like you were trying to compose yourself after seeing something evil in front of your eyes.

That’s not too far off. I can’t fathom what I just sat through watching this. I mean it was actually that big of a mess, especially the No DQ match and the US Title match. Those would be like Daniel Bryan getting squashed by Titus O’Neal today.

Your summation line of “look back at WCW in 1999 for perspective” is brilliant. Yes, WWE can be rough but we get gems like the Triple Threat at the Rumble still and guys truly trying their best. Even as dumb as RAW can be with stuff (the Bellas come instantly to mind), it’s still nowhere NEAR the “I feel my soul dying inside” agony the last two years of WCW gave me.
