I must respectfully disagree with your last statement. A friend and I watched this live at a closed circuit location, more due to being bored teenage wrestling fans rather than WWF stalwarts. This was in Tulsa, Oklahoma in early 1986, an area dominated by and devoted to Bill Watts’ Mid-South promotion. I was 17 but already knew I hated Vince McMahon’s cartoonish style, but it was wrestling, we were bored, so we went.
Halfway thru this abysmal show, the Cowboy himself strolled into the small venue and stood right in the center of the walkway and watched, remaining standing in the same, very visible spot for a full hour and a half. At that time, plans were already underway to turn Mid-South into the UWF in order to compete with McMahon.
Watts’ company was always great, but at this point it had been on a 2 year run as the best wrestling organization in the world, and hadn’t yet peaked. I was a faithful, weekly attender. I still recall how embarrassed I was just being seen by Watts. WM 2 was, and remains, one of the worst big shows in history.
