A good bit of that is true, but there’s one thing that trumps it all: He’s Hulk Hogan. Without him, we’re probably not here because he didn’t change the way wrestling was done and make it as big as it became.

I totally agree with you here KB, I love most of Hogan’s work but hate how greedy and selfish he was, not really sure If I like him or hate him but he was the Man for years.

At the end of the day however he did ruin two of the biggest possible main events in WM history. Not sure which would have been bigger, him vs Austin or Flair, or if either would have surpassed Hogan vs Andre, but it really bugs me that they never happened and they easily could have.

      • Thomas Hall says:

vs. Flair wouldn’t have. They did it in WCW and while big, it was never that big.

vs. Austin wouldn’t have either, not at that point for Austin at least. His time was past at that point.

I think I said the same thing last year, but while it is one of the better Manias and Savage vs Flair was awesome. The only thing I can think of every time this show is brought up is…

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HOGAN VS FLAIR!!!

    • Steve says:

Also, that would make at least 3 WM main events Hogan had a hand in ruining, 8, 9, 18, and possibly 25 if you believe the rumors about him and Cena.

      • Gunther_224 says:

It’s not his fault HHH and Jericho couldn’t follow Hogan and Rock. How’d he ruin Mania 25? I never heard that rumor.

        • Steve says:

If I remember correctly the rumor is that the main event of WM 25 was supposed to be Cena vs Hogan but Hogan either wanted too much money or pulled out. This would explain why Cena was in a more or less throwaway match against Edge and Big Show that year.

As for 18, I wasn’t referring to the worn out crowd for HHH and Jericho. It was supposed to be Austin vs Hogan but Hogan didn’t want to job the Stone Cold, so he refused the match. I dont car what anyone says Austin vs Hogan is WAAAAAAYYYYYY bigger than the Rock vs Hogan. To boot, Hogan dicked over the Rock in the match too by wrestling it like a face, luckily the Rock was smart/professional enough to go along with it and play the heel.

And I’m not a huge WCW guy but out of curiosity and from what I’ve read from KB’s stuff, it seems like Hogan killed at least 2 Starrcades maybe even 3. Quite impressive when you think about it. And don’t forget Summerslam 93, Im sure I left a few major PPVs off the list.

I was in awe of that Flair – Savage match.

    Holy crap was that good.

A personal fave of mine, just for the wonderful Heenan/Monsoon commentary. I especially loved Heenan selling the shock of Taker sitting up from two DDTs (“he’s not human!”) and then Gorilla driving Heenan into a raving mess after Flair’s loss. Just wonderful work.
