You’ll still hear them do that if you know what you’re listening for.

Listen to some of the old Big Show/Yokozuna/Great Khali matches and you’ll hear the announcers talking about how you have to see these people in person to appreciate how big they are.

Translation: Please come to our shows.

As for WCW, they had bigger issues at house shows than announcing title changes. Like Stevie Ray winning house show main events over Jeff Jarrett about a month before this.

Russo wining the belt wasnt right on any level but you show your WWE bias when you try to defend McMahon doing the same. I bet you were a fan of him winning the Rumble too. www was pretty bad at this time but man you really go out of your way to hate on them sometimes, nitpicking at Terry Funk winning and losing the US title? Really? Thats what house shows are for..give the fans something to smile about on their way home that has no consequence on the real storylines, but I’m sure you were on your knees praising the WWF when they’ve done the same exact thing.

I love how people throw around the term WWE bias like it’s the most horrible thing in the world.

      • Dookie Blaster 4.0 says:

yeah but being a New Japan mark or having a bias towards them is?

      • chad says:

As a supposed fan of wrestling you shouldn’t have a bias for any company.. WWE is traditionally an entertainment company first while WcW focused on giving us good wrestling matches..til Hogan and a much larger extent Russo got there. The thing that irks me about WWE racists like yourself is the rewriting of history…yeah WCW was bad around this time but id take this over the crap WWE shovels out to the audience today..have some respect for wrestling as a whole and not just the WWE man, your better than this.

        • Thomas Hall says:

          ……wow.

        • Jay H (the real one) says:

Chad explain to me how is he rewriting history? WCW was downright terrible by this point that not even the most jaded WCW Fan could have possibly defended it. I have yet to see many people say yeah I wanna go back and watch Nitro from 2000 because it was great TV other than to maybe see how much of a trainwreck it actually was.

        • chad says:

fack sorry it was supposed to say facists

        • chad says:

and Jay H, hew rewriting by comparing McMahons title win in a favourable light…Like I said in my post WCW surely was bad at this point and no I wouldn’t want to watch any of the 2000 Nitros but its irritating to hear that same WWE drivel where the same thing done by the Fed was pure gold while anybody else to do it gets shat on which is why I called KB out on it as he did the same thin in this same write up concerning the phantom title change…guarantee if this was a RAW review and the IC title changed that way he’d not even mention it or worse yet praise the idea of it just because Vince did it.

    • Greg says:

A title changed hands and it wasn’t important enough to mention. That should never happen with a title.

The storyline to setup Vince winning the title was great. I don’t like that he won it but it was entertaining. Russo was not entertaining. Simple.

      • Thomas Hall says:

The title change wasn’t really important actually. It was a somewhat common occurrence back in the 80s and just a way to give the live fans something to cheer about. Razor Ramon had a two day Intercontinental Title reign back in 1995 that was never mentioned because it was just for the fans who paid to see it. It’s really not that big of a deal.

        • Greg says:

Did not know that and shocked that they would do that. I would announce it to give people a reason to go to house shows. I don’t really get not mentioning it.

    • Jay H (the real one) says:

Chad maybe you should go back and read his reasoning as to why Vince’s worked and Russo’s didn’t. Russo dominated the feuds he was in and never got his coumpence. Plus he treated WCW like a vanity project mainly to get himself over.

      • chad says:

I read KBs reasoning and it was just bias reasoning that reeks of opinion..Fact is no owner should be the world champion…ever, thats like making Gilberto Mendoza the WBA champion, its ridiculous and no amount of padding or rationalization by KB will make it any less stupid that McMahon had the title as well. I give WCW absolutely no respect for giving the belt to Russo or Arquette…they dug their own grave with those two idiotic moves within the same calendar year but WWE is just as guilty at doing dumb shit.

        • Jay H (the real one) says:

So is it bias when everyone else is the business thought Russo putting the Title on himself was a horrible idea? Also Russo was not an owner he was a writer. Big difference.

  3. Jay H (the real one) says:

As time has gone on I am not that bothered anymore that David Arquette had won the WCW Title earlier in the year. It’s still bad but he at least had the good sense to donate his money he made in WCW and give it to the Harts on behalf of Owen. What Russo did here was basically kill the WCW World Title and bury it 6 feet under.

Also on RAW this night besides Austin’s Return and Rock/Benoit there was a Ladder Match between The Hardyz vs Edge & Christian plus Chris Jericho vs X-Pac in a 1st Blood Match.
