I’ve just finished watching the Best of Sting box set and I have one question. What was up with the main event of Starrcade ’97? I mean did Hogan legit pay Nick Patrick?
He said it was his (Bischoff) decision. He thought Sting was not in ring shape and had too many personal problems at the time (drugs). The match was booked that way so they could have an excuse to take the title off Sting.
Bischoff said Hogan had zero to do with what happened. Patrick likely forgot to do a fast count.
Sting needed to be able to throw punches, do a dropkick, and hit the Stinger Splash, Death Drop and Deathlock. He did every one of those and the match would have been fine.
I don’t buy the fast count part because look at Sting during the count. He doesn’t move an inch and stays down for several seconds. If it was a fast count, Sting should have been up right before a regular three count, not down for about ten. This was also after it turned into a Montreal story and Hogan strutted down the aisle.
I don’t buy Bischoff or Hogan’s answer and it really comes off as making it all about Hogan at the end of the day.

Bischoff finally addressed this.

Which is why I still don’t buy the excuse.

That actually makes a lot of sense.
Like you would expect anything else from a lifelong friend of Hogan’s.
