KB: Which Trips match do you prefer? This one or Foley at the Rumble?

Dropoff from The Rock to Kane as your babyface…? Yeah I’d say that’s significant.

I think when you Booker T, RVD, Kane, and a revitalized HBK that you could work at pushing new faces instead of pushing HHH as the end all be all soaking up 45-60 minutes of air time a week

The office didn’t like RVD (wanted him to do more promos for some reason but he said no). Steiner sucked. Booker T was going to be the guy but then Goldberg came in. Stretched that feud one PPV more than it should have. HBK didn’t want the title (he wasn’t a full-time guy anyways). Kane is more of a transitional champion (though I attribute that to bad booking).

Benoit got a run but they didn’t think he would draw so HHH was kept at the top. Orton was supposed to be the guy but was punished for bad behavior shortly after getting the title.

I won’t excuse HHH but it wasn’t 100% his fault.

It wasn’t, but he didn’t help things. Even giving Booker the title at Wrestlemania XIX and putting it back on HHH at Backlash would have been a huge breath of fresh air.

I’m more or less referring to the immediate 4-6 months following Summerslam. They dilly dallied with that month long reign for Shawn after Survivor Series but totally burnt down RVD and Kane as main event talent and ignored Booker T( they squandered his HHH feud later obviously). It was just a bad idea to take three guys who were over and fresh and instead send Trips out there to cut variations of the same 15 minute uber heel arrogance promo every week to begin Raw. Raw was in decline for awhile but this pattern is what drained it’s audience both core and casual.

    *Terrible post-Wrestlemania period, I meant.

Who was the top face on Raw after this show? I think this was Rock’s last match of 2002 and after him the dropoff is huge.

From what I recall RVD and Kane’s popularity were up there after he left

      • M.R. says:

That’s what I meant by huge dropoff.

        • VRTrooper says:

Not at all. Kane was a huge star at the time, having just come back from injury with a new look and attitude. With Rob Van Dam and Booker T also enjoying good babyface runs, Raw was definately improving after an awesome post-Wrestlemania period.
