I will say this about this year’s Mania: despite the bloat it looks like a show where everything is getting 12-16 minutes no more no less just WM31 was. The builds have been uneven generally but the match ups are somewhat interesting. I think both tag titles and SD women’s title( barring it being the big ladder match this year) are preshow bound. That leaves Raw with a bunch of part timers, a hurt/limited Rollins, and an over but slowed down version of Jericho. Aside from HHH and Rollins none of those other male matches screams 20+ minute match that eats up like 35 minutes of the broadcast.

Smackdown is similar in that a Shane match, a mixed tag match, and a midcard title match aren’t likely to need that extra 10-15 minutes to serve their purpose. Maybe Orton and Wyatt get a little time but it’s doubtful.

The crusierweight and women’s titles will be the undercard work horse matches that will get maybe 12-16 minutes plus we will get a 7 minute ATGMBR as filler. It might not be the worst 11 match 4.5-5 hour card in history just because they won’t stick to one match/long enough to get stale.

I fully expect the match to be a weapons match or street fight.

Since Shane needs his spots in order to get the crowd into any match he is in. As while AJ is a brilliant worker who can make a match with a broom looks great.

It doesn’t discount the fact that Shane is 47 years old and has never looked all convincing in the ring when there isn’t a trash can or ledge for him to jump on or off.

Along with that again like last year and at survivor series, Shane is taking the spot at Wrestlemania that really ought to go to someone else. Someone who could get a rub from one of the best wrestlers in the world and come out of it looking like a real potential for the future.

Or just having that Wrestlemania match or spot they have worked their whole life for.

I love Shane, but he and Stephanie are becoming overbearing on WWE TV for my tastes and it’s affecting the quality of the product on both shows.

McMahons are always going to around in someway on WWE TV that’s a fact.

But like the invasion period, at the moment in my view, they are overshadowing WWE’s talent in a negative way.

While the fatigue hasn’t hit most casual fans yet I think for Shane, but if this continues even they will feel wearied out by his presence. Heck most casual fans are fed up of seeing Stephanie being shoved down their throats.

Vince knew when to be on TV and when to stay off it to avoid fatiguing people of his character.

Plus with the already foul taste of Goldberg and Lesnar going at it again. This just feels like an additional serving of WWE’s continued stale showing at Wrestlemania of people and legends because Vince won’t build new stars.

I’m sure Shane and AJ will put 100% into their match, but the fact it’s happening when I think WWE can do better than this is a hard pill to swallow.

I think a good question would be is Shane still a draw? Last year might have been a result of holy crap he’s back, the cell and an unusual match. I’m not sure people still have the same excitement level for him this time around.

    • Thomas Hall says:

That’s a very legitimate question, but given that he’s 1/1 on the comeback, it makes sense to try it again.

As admirable as the storytelling is on Smackdown why aren’t we getting AJ v Joe in Orlando? The story would be great subtext and could literally be about Joe’s fury that AJ got special treatment over him despite being the same caliber of star. I don’t understand why they think a Shane match is a huge draw.

    • Thomas Hall says:

If I remember right, last year, almost immediately after Undertaker vs. Shane was announced, something like 30,000 tickets were sold in a big hurry. Fans knew Undertaker would be wrestling so it would stand to reason that Shane (or the Cell) was the draw.

      • Bloodbuzz Bunk says:

Geez that makes sense business wise but it’s awful that Shane who has maybe 25 matches to his name in total is that big of draw in ring. But at least this is the biggest stamp of approval AJ will ever get.

        • Thomas Hall says:

It’s a bit higher than that (103 according to Cagematch) but it actually makes sense. Shane is a rare attraction and it makes sense that people would want to see him more. If someone wrestles once or twice a year, you’re going to go out of your way a lot more often than you would to see someone you can catch in a week or two.

    • Your Eternal Reward says:

cause McMahons are the true box office draws in their minds i guess?

      • Jay H (the real one) says:

Say what you want but at least AJ Styles is still in a high profile Match at Mania. Plus i think he & Shane will go all out to make it enjoyable.

  5. Killaray says:

Brutal. Both shows sucked this week horrible

  6. Killjoy says:

It’s gonna be Finlay vs AJ Styles, right? Or Jamie Noble. Hey, why not? Styles vs Adam Pearce. Right? Right?

    • CrazySole says:

People may not like the match, but you can’t deny the match makes sense total sense and the build to the match has been great. I’m talking Shane vs AJ here.

Infact the build to every match on the Smackdown down side has been great, the best build up since maybe Mania 30.
