    @KB

    1. I don’t expect a word by word analysis. I agree that’d be ridiculous. As an example though let’s take this weeks Raw. The punchline of the B-Team’s promo was Bo calling Axel the brother he never had. It’s funny but you didn’t mention it. I’m more referring to stuff like that. I just think even if you don’t think it’s funny it’d be worth mentioning for those who may read your reviews and miss the actual show.
    2. I’ll give you an example of the repetitive thing the next time I catch it. It’s kind of hard to explain it without one
    3. I agree it’s not easy to make a guy sitting in a submission sound exciting with words. But again, I feel there’s gotta be a way for you to capture how exciting it actually is.

      1. Well see there’s a very good, analytical reason I didn’t mention the brother part. I listened to the promo, I watched them talk, I considered their body language….and that went right over my head.

      2. Oh it’s there. That’s me being lazy.

      3. There probably is. I’ll see what I can do about that.

  2. James BC says:

Orton’s line is not stupid. Your alleged counterexamples:

    – Cena – has disappeared and isn’t expected back soon
    – Lesnar – took a ten year hiatus, barely there even now
    – Hardy, Hardy, Benjamin – all went away for years
    – Angle, HHH, Stephanie, Vince, Shane – not wrestlers

Orton is the only current wrestler who’s been full time with WWE right through from 2002 when he debuted. Orton is right!

    • Prophet says:

Angle, HHH, Stephanie and Shane not wrestlers yet they all wrestled at Mania.

Sounds like a wrestler to me.

    • ted says:

Jeff, Matt and Shelton are however there. So Orton’s comment of no one being left is incorrect.

    • Thomas Hall says:

Orton didn’t say wrestled. His exact words were “who’s still around”. Those people are all in fact still around.

  3. Prophet says:

I expect a detailed analysis on the Sasha/Bayley kiss when it happens otherwise I’ll start whining about things being half-assed.

Who cares about the grades when we’ve got a lesbian angle on the horizon?!

  4. Shane says:

I agree with Pracker. A D+ because you didnt care for Evolution being built this early. But you have been half assing reviews for a while now so I’m not surprised

    • Thomas Hall says:

How exactly has that been the case?

    • Marky-Marc says:

      Lol
I’ve been saying this for a looooong time.

      • Thomas Hall says:

Again: how has that been the case?

        • Marky-Marc says:

I don’t enjoy criticizing you because I’m not in your shoes and I’m sure doing the reviews live is mich more difficult than it appears. However there are some things I feel could be finely tuned with a little more attention to detail:

-you gloss over promos like they’re nothing and often times I read your reviews before watching the show (when I fall behind on my DVR) and I’ll watch a promo and think man that’s nothing like KB described it
-you’ve become way too repetitive, often using the same words twice in one sentence. I might be nit-picking but I find it lazy.
-your review of the last two minutes of a big/good match are very mundane. You’ll write ‘the acolade doesn’t work, not that it matters as the spear ends him’ and again it’s nothing like the last two minutes actually were.
Just a few examples of things I’ve noticed as someone who’s been reading your stuff since like 2010.

          • Thomas Hall says:

            Two things first.

            1. Thanks for being here that long. I’ve been doing this nearly ten years now and someone following me that long never stops blowing my mind.

            2. I have no issues with criticisms, at least when they’re not just calling me an idiot/loser/whatever else they are. I’m going to get into funks at times and more often than not, I’m not going to notice it. I have however noticed this one though and yeah, it certainly exists.

            Now on to everything else.

            1. I’ve always done promos like that and some of it is by design. Unless it’s something great or really important, I don’t like the idea of writing out promos word by word as I don’t think it has nearly the impact of what is said. That’s why I usually shrink it down to “Cena says he’ll win” because otherwise, the reviews are like the older ones that took ten pages for a two hour show, which is overdoing it.

            2. There’s two sides to this. On the using the same words twice in one sentence, absolutely true and that’s not a good thing. I try to catch those when I go over the shows before I post them but they do slip through. That’s not an excuse as they shouldn’t happen in the first place. As for being repetitive, the problem comes down to one simple thing: there’s only so many ways to describe a lot of the same stuff over and over again. I certainly could (and should) expand on it somewhat, but there’s a finite amount of ways to talk about a match that is very similar (if not a rematch) of something that’s been done recently.

            3. Fair enough, though in that example, how many ways can I say the Accolade doesn’t work? Saying something like “Reigns is in the hold. He’s reaching for the ropes. Still reaching. Not quite there yet. Oh he’s there.” isn’t exactly thrilling stuff.

A lot of the way I do things is designed to be more of a Reader’s Digest version of what happens rather than an exact play by play. I don’t see the point in listing off every move (you have to sometimes and I’ve been doing it far more than I like lately) because if a match is that good, people will want to see it for themselves.

All that being said, you’re absolutely right that I’ve gotten into a bit of a funk lately, partially because I’ve been taking on too many things at once and it’s burned me out a bit on the weekly TV. I’ve dropped/finished a few of them though and that should help a bit. I know I can get a bit defensive about this stuff, but criticisms like this are actually really helpful. Thank you for pointing them out and as always, I’ll be trying to get better.

  5. Pracker says:

You’re completely half-assing your reviews these days. A D+? Really? You found this show worse than last night’s abomination? This was the best SD episode in ages.

    • Thomas Hall says:

      Three things.

      1. That’s not hall a**ing. That’s disagreeing with a review.

      2. Not all shows are the same, nor are they rated the same.

      3. Last week’s show was better, among other recent ones.

      • Jay H (the real one) says:

I am pretty sure he said Smackdown was pretty good. Reading comprehension is fun sometimes.

I am pretty pumped for AJ/Joe at Summerslam.
