Yeah, I pretty much felt the same way when I read the news. Ciampa’s doing, and has been doing for a long time, tremendous work and the fact that he’s done such great work while in the middle of a great title run makes the situation all the more tragic.

If there’s a silver lining in all this, it’s that NXT’s creative team has risen to meet challenges time and time again with quality angles and feuds. So while we’re missing out on what would have been another MOTY instant classic, I have faith that NXT will ultimately be able to field something that’s both entertaining and sensible; I mean…it’s what NXT has done since just about forever.

I feel like a good solution would have been to schedule the title match. Have Ciampa say it was time to end this for good and not only is the title on the line but its career vs career and he wants another crazy No-DQ match. Build up the fact that Johnny keeps getting sucked into these violent matches and that his emotions keep getting the better of him as he gets unnecessarily violent and costs himself in the end.
Then have Johnny win the match in 10 seconds with a roll up or small package that Ciampa simply isn’t ready for. Johnny wins by embracing being Johnny Wrestling again and Ciampa is in no danger of further injury and is written off for his surgery.

Usually I’d panic, but NXT got a lot of mileage out of Black’s injury, and this is probably “good timing”, considering their call up put a damper on the whole storyline.
