FOX Might Want To End The PG Era

Well that would be….different.I’m not sure on this one.  The whole appeal for WWE is the fact that they’re going to the FOX network, but if that falls through and they go down to FS1 or something like that, is it worth losing so much else from the sponsorship money/mainstream acceptance they’ve received?  I’m not sold on that, and really I don’t want to see the Attitude Era style come back.  It’s a different world today and WWE has found a very nice niche with the PG style.

It would be cool to see Smackdown being more edgy, and Raw being the more PG. Different shows, different feel. But that would impact WWEs sponsors. So if anything, I think we might strategically make particular feuds like that, not a whole show. Similar how Lesnar matches would sometimes get a bit of blood from Brock going stiff, but it’s not the norm.

I wouldn’t expect a full fledged return of the Attitude Era, but I have no problem believing that Fox wants WWE to be edgier than we’ve seen in a long while. Fox is a network that’s never been afraid of pushing the envelope in the past, whether it be on the Fox Network itself or cable networks like FX. Shows like Married with Children, the Simpsons, Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Sons of Anarchy, Family Guy, etc. are all shows that at one time or another have garnered tons of controversy.

We’ve all read the rumors that Fox wants SmackDown Live to cut out most of the comedy and be more along the lines of a sports program with serious content. Personally, I’ll take that over stuff like stopping in the middle of matches and doing dance breaks and all that stuff, though I can’t say I don’t enjoy Carmella shaking what she’s got but not right in the middle of a match as it undermines everything.

Fox is paying WWE well over a billion dollars and while I don’t think they’ll be heavy handed, I do believe they’ll be more involved in things than NBC Universal has been concerning WWE’s content.
