Up here in Western Canada, Tyson is getting more coverage and viral views then any other fighter due to his comeback bid and workout videos. This is a smart move on AEW ‘s part to get more eyeballs. Also, great show tonight and The Revival already feel like a better fit here than in WWE where they were just treated as a comedy team.

Jericho does it again. He brings up something from a past raw years ago and makes a marginal segment from that raw into a huge segment where media is at least bringing it up. Genius.
Yeah, ESPN bringing it up borders on cringe because they don’t treat wrestling as legitimate(I get that) but that’s not really meant for us but more of Tyson being such a polarizing figure. Would have loved a Tyson and Rodman segment. They are naturals when it comes to the psychology of a wrestling promo

I mean ESPN doesn’t mean much anymore. They are struggling. Ratings aren’t getting better for them. They’re slowly dying. ESPN is a mainstream name but honestly, they really aren’t mainstream anymore. So I’m not sure how much this helps.

I’m not sure Tyson means much anymore as well.

      • MikeA says:

Yeah. Streaming killed the television star. People can watch highlights when they want.

Yeah you could say that about Tyson now I totally understand that. I was in Vegas for Bite Night in 97 with my dad, but that’s me
I can understand how an audience that really did not see Tyson fight could say that and at the end of the day it can’t be just us watching
New viewers have to come along and at least be interested enough to see highlights. Watching an entire show is a thing of the past really due to my first thought in this response

I’m not sure I’d say ESPN doesn’t mean much anymore. They’re still pretty easily the kings of sports on TV.

        • Greg says:

Funnily enough, TNT actually reaches more households than ESPN does.

ESPN is still “king” but as of last month, their primetime ratings are down 60%. No one is watching. ESPN’s customer base is shrinking consistently.

So yeah AEW made ESPN, but who noticed? In non-corona times, maybe this would be better. However, AEW’s core are the people who are cutting the cord. So again, I just don’t see ESPN as a big deal. Not now, not 5 months ago.

You liked the Britt Baker segment and didn’t find it endless and cringeworthy?

    Please do explain good sir.

  4. BestSportsEntertainer says:

Chris Jericho made the ending work like he makes everything work. He’s the best in the world.

  5. Stone Cold Tea says:

I’ve read maybe 2 AEW Reviews before this one. The first one and the most recent PPV. I scroll down Facebook and see Jericho vs Tyson.

Now I’m here reading the article, I’ll be back next week and they have my interest.

The Mike Tyson card still works in 2020.

  6. Jay H says:

So there grand plan is to bring in 50 year old Mike Tyson against Chris Jericho. Yeah I’m done with AEW. I’ll stick with WWE, ROH, maybe even give Impact a try again.

    • Mike M. says:

It’s a slow work day, I’ll bite. It will be a train wreck of a match, but Jericho is their biggest star and Tyson still draws mainstream attention. That’s something all wrestling companies constantly chase.

    • Harry F says:

Mike Tyson’s clash with Chris Jericho made newspaper headlines here in the UK, along with Brazil and India. Not my favourite booking in the world but it did what it needed to do.

      • Greg says:

Eh it only made like ESPN news here in the US. ESPN isn’t that big of a deal anymore. Tyson isn’t much of a star anymore.

Also, you guys still have newspapers?

    • MikeA says:

I see your point Jay , however Mike can be 90 and about to go and he would still get eyeballs and most likely ears(he loves those, just kidding). The fact of the matter is we are not going to like every thing, but at least the marketplace is full of options.
Here’s an idea that no one talks about maybe KB you can educate us but did WWF at the time ever do any cross promotion between Andre and Ali? I’m pretty sure they did, just can’t recall off the top of my head.

      • Thomas Hall says:

I know they posed together but I don’t recall any TV appearances.

        • Jay H says:

Just because it made Newspapers doesn’t mean it was any good. I’m not a Boxing Fan,.it was cool 22 years ago but it’s not so much now IMO. I think what broke me more than that was Christopher Daniels being eliminated like a schmuck by a Child playing Wrestler in that Battle Royal.
