I feel like the whole Lana being punished stuff was leading to this the whole time. Still doesn’t make me care. She isn’t impressive enough in other categories to make up for not being good in the ring.

WWE can’t escape the rematch type of booking because of the stupid brand split. If they actually moved on from feuds/matches when they should, they will quickly run out of fresh feuds. It happens every single time they do it.

Except they were doing this type of thing when there was no Brand Separation from 2011-2016. Remember when they had the “Wild Card rule” in 2019 for several months? That didn’t solve the problem, either.

        Let’s look at 2011:

        We had a few long main feuds. Cena/Punk/Rio, Show/Henry, Miz/Cena, Orton/Christian, Henry/Orton. Don’t know if I’m forgetting any.

Cena/Punk/Rio went 7 PPVs. Discounting the cash in, this included 1 rematch of Cena/Rio and 1 rematch of Cena/Punk. Plus this started as Cena/Punk and morphed into a plug-n-play feud.

Miz/Cena went 3 PPVs. One had Rock and one was a triple threat. They only had one match where the focus was just those 2.

Now is that as bad as today?…I’m actually asking because I actually don’t know.

But going based off feeling, they were able to mix and match the feuds back then to keep them more fresh. Cena/Punk/Rio was a rotating feud. Same with Miz/Cena. Orton/Christian had a nice story but probably 1 more match than needed on PPV. Henry/Show didn’t need a no contest and a DQ finish. Henry/Orton I think only went 2 PPVs. This was accomplished because they weren’t limited by the brand split. Pieces could be moved around so it wasn’t the same each time.

Whereas today, feuds just continue despite the loser just losing and not really having a reason for a rematch. Losing the title and rematch had consequences for everyone except Christian.

Thank you for looking up that info, and yes, I’d say that is just as bad if not worse. SEVEN PPVs with the same 3 guys and NO BRAND SEPARATION is inexcusable. Plus, keep in mind that Smackdown was a worthless show during these years as it was just a lame re-run to Raw, especially after Raw went to 3 hours. If the Creative Team today wasn’t so lazy/inept, they could accomplish a longer feud. Have New Day beat THB in their first title defense, but have it not end cleanly. I.E.- the illegal man from THB takes the fall, and/or has his foot on the ropes when being pinned and not seen by the ref, etc. Adam Pearce rules that the decision stands, but that the Hurt Business will get another tag team title shot in the future. THEN start with these singles matches, etc.

I do agree they probably had more repetition than I remember. I’ve always just chalked up repetition to the brand split when it’s probably more poor booking than anything.

“I really could go for getting rid of WWE’s booking technique of having title matches where the champions retain and then continue the feud anyways.”

Agreed 100% Seriously, why do you think they do this? Is this just lazy booking on their part, or do you believe they honestly are incapable of thinking beyond this pattern?

    • Thomas Hall says:

I really do think it’s because it’s the easy way out and they can avoid having to come up with multiple ideas.

Drew and AJ at TLC should be excellent. Jeff Hardy was lucky on that Swanton Spot.

As far as Lana goes I have to agree with Mike down below. She’s trying to get better In Ring wise based on her Chronicle episode and I give her credit for it.

  4. Mike M. says:

I was never a huge Lana fan, but I recently watched the Chronicle featuring her on the Network and my opinion of her really changed. They should be showing clips of this on RAW. She comes off infinitely more likable than she’s ever been presented on RAW.

  5. Sebastian Howard says:

    Really good triple threat.
