Ring Of Honor TV – December 2, 2020: Like A Rock Shot Out Of A Catapult Right At The Pituitary Gland

Ring of Honor
Date: December 2, 2020
Location: UMBC Events Center, Baltimore, Maryland
Commentators: Caprice Coleman, Ian Riccaboni

We are less than three weeks away from Final Battle and a few of the matches have been announced. There are going to have to be some changes made on the show due to the pandemic messing with so many things, but the question is which changes are going to be made. Let’s get to it.

Here are last week’s results if you need a recap.

Opening sequence.

The Foundation talks about how they are here to rebuild Ring of Honor and that means Rhett Titus can take off his mask. Actually hang on as Tracy Williams says why show a face that no one has cared about for so many years. They aren’t the bad guys and they will claim all of the titles.

Josh Woods talks about being successful in everything he has done in his short career. Jay Lethal’s long career isn’t as successful anymore and that is making things change a bit. Pure wrestling is made for him and while Jay Lethal beat him with the Lethal Injection before, every hold has a counter. This win is going to change how people look at him.

Jay Lethal loves how the pure wrestling has gone so far and it warms his heart. He didn’t beat LSG in his last pure wrestling match though because LSG beat himself. Granted Lethal would have beaten him in another minute. Lethal respects LSG but now he has serious respect for Woods, who is scary in something like this. As cocky and dangerous as Woods is though, Lethal will beat him and won’t need the judges’ decision. Woods should win this match, but he won’t.

Jay Lethal vs. Josh Woods

Pure rules. They fight over a lockup to start before Woods offers Lethal the leg. Lethal is smarter than that so Woods goes for the arm instead. That just earns him a headlock on the mat from Lethal, who switches up to the leg in a hurry. Woods breaks that up in a hurry and it’s a standoff in the middle. Another armbar has Lethal in trouble so he uses his first rope break.

That’s not cool with Woods, who suplexes him down and hammers away, setting up a waistlock. Lethal is up with his hiptoss into a basement dropkick to send us to a break. Back with Lethal holding a reverse chinlock with Woods having to go to the rope for the first time. Woods kicks him down (Ian: “Right in the pituitary gland!”) to the floor and it’s a backbreaker into a German suplex for two back inside.

Lethal is back up with a toss to the apron and a dropkick to the floor. The lack of time means it’s only one suicide dive but Hail To The King is countered into a cross armbreaker. That’s broken up but the Lethal Injection is countered into a choke. Woods grabs a grapevined ankle lock but Lethal stacks him up for two. That’s fine with Woods, who pulls him into a rollup for the pin at 14:04.

Rating: B-. That’s where Lethal can be incredibly valuable. He is the most established name Ring of Honor has and it isn’t like him losing over and over is going to hut him in the slightest. Let him put some of these young wrestlers over and try to build up the roster for the future. It worked in the Pure Tournament and it worked here, with Woods getting probably the biggest win of his career.

Since WE MUST HAVE TALK SHOWS, here’s the first edition of Trending With Matt Taven. His first guest is Mike Bennett, who talks about doing this since he was fifteen years old. Bennett first signed with Ring of Honor in 2011 and now he’s back because Taven needed someone to have his back. Well at least they kept it short.

Mark Briscoe likes the idea of being a twelve time Tag Team Champion but Jay Briscoe is worried about EC3. Maybe being quarantined messed with the oxygen to his brain. Mark is getting the shot, but he needs to find a partner.

Brody King talks about what it meant to beat a former World Champion in Dalton Castle. He is taking the same mentality into his match with Shane Taylor, because it is time to move up the ranks. Shane is like a rock, but Brody is like a rock launched out of a catapult. King is here to prove why he belongs in the World Title scene.

Shane Taylor talks about the weight being off of his shoulders now that he has beaten Kenny King. Now it is time to go after the World Title and that sets his sights on Brody King. He has no problem with Brody King and they are similar, but Brody is in the way of his path to the World Title. Being champion means you can’t ignore him anymore and no one is dictating his value any longer.

Brody King vs. Shane Taylor

Taylor has the Soldiers of Savagery with him….and then they go to the back for the bell. King chops away against the ropes to start and Taylor is knocked to the floor. There’s the big flip dive from the apron as Taylor gets chopped around ringside. Taylor is sent into the barricade and we take a break. Back with Taylor dropping him on the floor and sending King into the barricade to even things up. That’s enough for a nineteen count so Taylor yells about the speed.

Back in and King knocks him into the ropes again, setting up the Cannonball against the ropes. A Death Valley Driver into the corner drops Shane and we take another break. We come back again with King slapping him down (and Caprice doing a Keith Lee impression), only to have Taylor run him over for two. King plants him as well but the Gonzo Bomb is blocked. Taylor gets two off the package piledriver and they both need a breather. King blasts him with a clothesline, followed by a standing clothesline for the pin at 12:37.

Rating: C+. Take two big guys, have them hit each other really hard, pick the one you want to push. There is a good chance that this sets up King as the #1 contender, which is what commentary kept pushing all match. They almost have to get the title off of Rush given the circumstances and King makes as much sense as anyone else at the moment. Good power match, and it was nice to not have an obvious winner.

They shake hands to end the show.

Overall Rating: B-. This was about setting things up for the future and that is one of the best things that Ring of Honor can do. You can’t get very far with the same people and at this point they need to build things up for the future. They are doing something better with that at the moment, and now you can see a good chunk of Final Battle coming from here. Now just make it work.

We open with a recap of the World Title situation with Ethan Carter III and Eddie Edwards going to a double pin and Edwards vs. Lashley going into the North Carolina woods at Total Nonstop Deletion.

Grand Championship: Moose vs. Mike Bennett

Moose is defending. The announcers try to act like this was a great friendship before just giving up on the idea. Bennett kicks him down and grabs a chinlock before hammering away to gain favor with the judges. That sounds like it belongs in some lame adventure game. Another hard chinlock ends the first round, which Bennett easily wins. Moose fights back to start the second round and hits a middle rope moonsault for an early two.

Back up and Moose dives into a cutter for two. We hit another chinlock until Moose takes his head off with the Game Changer as the round ends. After a break, Moose wins round two and grabs the chokebomb for two. He misses a top rope moonsault though and Bennett grabs a piledriver for two. They very slowly slug it out with Moose hitting him in the face but getting kicked in the chest. Another slugout is enough for them to take it to the bell at 16:49 (counting breaks). Moose wins via split decision.

Swoggle is in the back when he runs into the Hardys. Matt asks if he was sent here by Mc-Mehon to infiltrate the event. Apparently he was and Matt laughs.

Rockstar Spud vs. Swoggle

Spud wants to start this year with a win because the winning streak starts now. Swoggle starts fast with a spear, a German suplex and the Celtic Cross for a completely clean pin at 1:09.

Post match Spud quits.

Bennett goes up to Moose again and demands a rematch on the pay per view in a match where anything goes. Moose agrees.

Eli Drake holds up signs that say he gets to talk next.

Eddie is about to talk about his surprise when Lashley comes up with a threat.

Video on Total Nonstop Deletion.

Helms Dynasty vs. Decay

Post match the DCC jumps Decay from behind.

Maria has something special planned for Allie.

Allie vs. Sienna

Madison Rayne is on commentary. Allie goes right after her but gets taken down by Sienna instead. A one foot cover gets two and a sideslam gives Sienna the same. Sienna keeps getting distracted by Braxton Sutter on the floor but is still able to spit at Allie. That fires Allie up even more and she slams Sienna, only to have Laurel hug Braxton for a distraction. Allie is upset and the Silencer puts her away at 5:05.

TNA World Title: Ethan Carter III vs. Lashley vs. Eddie Edwards

Results

Moose b. Mike Bennett via split decision

Swoggle b. Rockstar Spud – Celtic Cross

Decay b. Helms Dynasty – Chokeslam to Everett

Jesse Godderz vs. Aron Rex

Due to the attack last week, Gail Kim is forced to vacate the Knockouts Title.

Hardy and Edwards get to face the DCC in an anything goes handicap match tonight.

Sienna/Laurel Van Ness vs. Brandi Rhodes/???

Trevor Lee vs. Ethan Carter III vs. Lashley vs. Mike Bennett

The fans want someone to kill the troll as Carter takes some shoulders in the corner. Ethan comes right back and loads up a double 1%er, only to get speared in half by Lashley. A cutter drops Lashley and a deadlift German suplex gives Lee two on Carter. Bennett starts snapping off superkicks and spinebusters, only to have Lashley give him the real spinebuster. Lee suplexes Lashley to block the spear (sweet counter) and dives over the top to take out Carter and Lashley. Back in and Carter grabs a sleeper to make Lee tap at 14:07.

Reby and Matt look at some Broken Matt videos and Matt is terrified of the chaos.

Decay threatens Jade with destruction at the hands of Rosemary.

Basile Baraka vs. Mahabali Shera

Rating: D. Why is this still a thing? I know they need to fill in time but is this really the best they have? Or is Shera just there to keep the Sony Six people happy? Neither guy is interesting and the Tribunal, which could have been at least something, has turned into one of the least interesting acts in a long time.

Post match the Tribunal beats Shera down until Al Snow makes the save. Josh: “AL SNOW IS TRENDING WORLDWIDE ON TWITTER RIGHT NOW!” Does Josh know that trending on Twitter is a real thing and not just a random statement? Snow and Shera shake hands, which Josh calls the Mega Powers uniting. He might be the greatest troll announcer ever and I doubt he has any idea of it.

The suicide dive is overshot as Eddie crashes into the crowd and Drake comes up holding his arm. Back in and a quick Blunt Force Trauma gets two, followed by a quick belly to back suplex for the same. Not that it matters as the Boston Knee Party is enough for the pin to retain the title at 10:21.

Ethan Carter III/Jesse Godderz vs. Aron Rex/Eli Drake

We look back at Maria attacking Brandi last week.

Maria is running her mouth when Brandi comes in, sending Maria scampering.

Rockstar Spud teases who he has for his Team X Gold teammates.

DJZ/Braxton Sutter/Mandrews vs. Rockstar Spud/Decay

Cody and Brandi call this personal.

We recap Allie getting beaten down last week.

Back from a break with Jeff, in costume, mowing the lawn into his logo.

Laurel Van Ness vs. Allie

Madison Rayne is on commentary again. Laurel drives her into the corner to start and shrugs off a clothesline. They head outside where Laurel misses a charge into the steps to give Allie a chance. Back in and Allie scores off a double leg takedown and some right hands, setting up a rollup for two. Not that it matters as a curb stomp ends Allie at 4:33.

Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump come up to House Hardy. Senor Benjamin tazes Trump and Jeff asks what happened to the e-mails. Matt: “DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!” Ok I chuckled on that one. Jeff shouts about Boo Radley and Vanguard I chases Hilary away.

Godderz comes up to Rex and demands a title shot, which Rex actually grants.

Mike Bennett and Maria say they have what Cody and Brandi want.

Video on Lashley vs. Edwards.

Mike Bennett/Maria Kanellis-Bennett vs. Cody/Brandi Rhodes

Maria starts and tags out in less than three seconds, meaning the men will really get this going. Cody sends Mike into the corner and Maria slaps him in the face, almost drawing Brandi over for the fight. A cutter gives Mike two and we take a break. Back with Cody fighting out of trouble and slamming Mike down.

The bad looking offense results in Maria being sent into another low blow on Mike, followed by some kind of choke/half nelson from Brandi (the camera keeps moving around so we never get a clear shot of it). Cody adds a modified reverse Figure Four (I believe Jamie Noble used to call it the Trailer Hitch) for a double submission at 11:20.

Results

Aron Rex/Eli Drake b. Jesse Godderz/Ethan Carter III – Revelator to Godderz

DJZ/Braxton Sutter/Mandrews b. Rockstar Spud/Decay – ZDT to Spud

Laurel Van Ness b. Allie – Curb stomp

Cody/Brandi Rhodes b. Maria Kanellis-Bennett/Mike Bennett – Double submission

Moose vs. Lashley

The Tribunal talks about wanting respect but the feed cuts out to hear from the three masked men. Chaos arrives tonight.

Tyrus ad.

Since Rex beat Edwards for the Grand Championship, that makes him the man around here. Rex says none of them have anything on the man who is Bound For Gold. This brings Rex around to Ethan Carter III, who Drake says is bound for the dumpster. Cue Carter but Drake sends it to a break, complete with a TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES DUMMIES graphic. This segment gets better and better every week.

Back with Carter in the ring and calling Eli out for a fight. He wants to destroy that set but wants Eli to press the button so he can punch Drake (YEAH!), kick Drake (YEAH!) or choke Drake (YEAH!). Eli pushes the button over and over so Carter dives on the security and the fight is on. Rex tries to break it up but Jesse Godderz (who Rex insulted during his interview) comes out to go after Aron. Security breaks it up.

Tag Team Titles: Hardys vs. Tribunal

Allie is getting ready to stand up to Maria when Braxton Sutter comes up. That goes nowhere as Laurel Van Ness comes in to say Maria has something to say to Allie. Laurel hits on Braxton a bit too.

We look back at the end of Gail vs. Maria from last week.

Ethan Carter III and Jesse Godderz want to face Aron Rex and Eli Drake next week.

Mahabali Shera vs. Mike Bennett

Video on Eddie vs. Cody.

TNA World Title: Eddie Edwards vs. Cody

Cody is challenging and has Brandi Rhodes in his corner. Feeling out process to start and a double dropkick gives us a standoff. Back from a break with Cody getting kicked down to the mat, only to have him chop Eddie into an armbar. Eddie fights up again but eats the Beautiful Disaster, followed by a springboard dive to the floor.

A slam on the ramp sets up a modified Muscle Buster on the champ for another near fall and Cody is getting frustrated. The champ is loaded up for a superplex but reverses into a small package (looked horrible as Cody was laying on the mat and then raised up to get to the pin) to retain at 13:05.

A MMA/professional wrestler

A former NFL player

The freakshow with magical powers

A loudmouth with a model wife who was treated like a huge deal on arrival

Results

Date: October 2, 2016
Location: Impact Zone, Orlando, Florida
Commentators: D’Angelo Dinero, Josh Matthews

We open with Matt Hardy and his son Maxell playing the piano. Matt stops to read a story, which serves as our opening recap for all of the matches.

The announcers welcome us to the show.

X-Division Title: Trevor Lee vs. DJZ

The champ is thrown back in and grabs a flapjack, followed by a top rope hurricanrana to make it even worse. They trade dives with Lee getting the better of it but DJZ reverses a German suplex into a reverse hurricanrana. The ZDT is countered with the double stomp but DJZ reverses a suplex into a Canadian Destroyer of all things. Now the ZDT connects to retain the title at 11:08.

Bound For Gold

Celebrity chef Robert Irvine is here to watch Gail Kim be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Maria and Mike Bennett come in to say tonight is about them.

Mike Bennett vs. Moose

Moose fights up again and hits some running clotheslines, followed by a very hard clothesline. Mike comes back with a tornado DDT and a piledriver for two. Even more clotheslines have Bennett reeling but he catches a top rope clothesline in a cutter. That goes nowhere as Moose grabs the chokebomb and hits a discus lariat for the pin at 10:10.

Grand Championship: Aron Rex vs. Eddie Edwards

For the inaugural title and the rounds are now five minutes long instead of three. Feeling out process to start with neither being able to go anywhere in the first two minutes. Eddie snaps off a hurricanrana but gets caught in the Russian legsweep. Rex is sent outside for a big flip dive and both guys are down. A few more shots have Eddie in control and round one ends.

Eddie wins the first round so Rex is much more aggressive to start the second round. Some hard chops have Eddie in trouble and Rex starts in on the knee. Rex grabs an Indian Deathlock and THE LIGHTS GO OUT. Not as in an angle but as in the lights just stopped working. Fans: “PAY THE LIGHT BILL!” They come back on as Rex puts on a modified Sharpshooter for a few moments. Some knees to the back get two and the round ends.

We recap Decay vs. the Hardys in the Great War. Decay took the titles earlier in the year and the Hardys invited them to North Carolina for Final Deletion II. This is a match with unclear rules with the titles on the line.

Tag Team Titles: Hardys vs. Decay

Abyss and Jeff are nowhere to be seen as Rosemary comes in with a Van Terminator of all things to give Steve two on the floor. Back in the ring, Abyss staples Jeff in the forehead. Josh: “Somebody is teeing off on somebody on the other side of the Impact Zone.” Thanks for that information Josh. Matt and Abyss fight to the back with Abyss punching out a referee. Steve and Jeff join them with Decay in control. Jeff tries to reach a bucket labeled “Lake of Reincarnation” but Steve hits him with a music stand.

Matt and Abyss stagger back inside as well with Abyss suplexing Matt on the ramp. Jeff (no longer Willow) crawls back out from under the ring and baseball slides a table into Steve. The Twist of Fate and Swanton get two on Abyss, who brings out the barbed wire board. Matt takes over and adds in the thumbtacks, followed by a Side Effect onto various sharp objects.

We recap Lethal Lockdown with Lashley picking the main event stipulations.

Lashley is tired of people like EC3 being placed in front of him. Tonight is about teaching a lesson.

Knockouts Title: Maria Kanellis-Bennett vs. Gail Kim

Quick recap of Carter vs. Lashley. Carter is the latest person to come after the title and Lashley has promised to treat him like everyone who has come before.

TNA World Title: Ethan Carter III vs. Lashley
