We’re overseas again and that means we should be in for another white hot crowd. These shows have turned into a highlight of the WWE calendar, mainly due to how hot the crowds tend to be. That has me interested in what we’re going to be seeing, with the pair of World Title matches headlining the show. As usual, there are only five matches, but it means we could have a good show if the middle of the pack matches deliver. Let’s get to it.

Smackdown Women’s Title: Rhea Ripley(c) vs. Jade Cargill

This is a Wrestlemania rematch, albeit with the roles reversed. That makes for an interesting situation, as Cargill has been on a rampage about wanting to get her title back. That has me wondering where this is going, as it feels like Charlotte is going to be waiting in the wings for the winner. You could go either way, as the two options here are looking pretty equal.

I’ll take Ripley to retain here, as it feels like we could be seeing Charlotte get the title showdown next, and probably winning (throwing Money In The Bank to Alexa Bliss could make for an interesting summer). This could absolutely go to Cargill again, but I’ll take Ripley to retain, as there isn’t much of a point in having Ripley lose the title back so fast. If nothing else, at least they should get more time than they got at Wrestlemania.

Women’s Intercontinental Title: Becky Lynch(c) vs. Sol Ruca

Ruca has shown up in a big splash on the main roster and I’m digging her stuff thus far. She has something of a presence to her and when you throw in one of the flashiest finishers around, there is some potential for quite the push. At the same time, you can tell that she’s in for something special as she’s immediately going in against Lynch, which is quite the opening feud. But does she win the title here?

Yeah I think she does, as this feels like it could be the big surprise title change of the show. Ruca has already lost a fairly high profile match (at least given her status on the roster) and I’m not sure I would have that happen again. You don’t want her to lose her wings so quickly and a win over Lynch would be a huge deal. She doesn’t have to keep the title for a long time, but she needs to win it and I think we’ll see that here.

Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar

Here we have another Wrestlemania rematch and the way around the whole “Lesnar is retired” is “yeah he’s retired but he’s wrestling anyway”, which is hardly the best way to go. At the same time, I want to see the two of them beat the living daylights out of each other again, just like they did at Wrestlemania. Femi is feeling like he could be the next monster thing around here and it has me wondering just how much WWE agrees.

In a pick that could blow up in my face, I’m going to take Femi to beat Lesnar again. While there is little shake in losing to Lesnar, Femi losing so soon is not going to do him any good. Femi needs to be treated like the next unstoppable monster and have his first loss be in a major spot. In this case, he needs to go over to make it clear that he can beat even a souped up Lesnar. It’s the best way to go and hopefully WWE realizes that.

Smackdown World Title: Cody Rhodes(c) vs. Gunther

Now this one has changed a good bit for me, as I wasn’t overly interested in the match until we got to the final Smackdown. These two had a heck of a face to face promo and it made me that much less sure about who was going to win the match. While Rhodes getting the big win feels likely, Gunther guaranteeing another big win left me unsure, as he has lived up to his word thus far. That’s not out of the question, but do they actually go in that direction?

I’m actually going to say yes they do, with Gunther winning the title. Gunther is the definition of a big bad who has to be slain and I’m thinking they’ll actually go with the title change. Rhodes is often better when he is chasing the title and that would be the right move here. Even if Gunther beats him clean, it gives Rhodes something to do over the summer, perhaps via the King Of The Ring.

Raw World Title: Roman Reigns(c) vs. Jacob Fatu

And now we have what should be wrapping the show up in the form of Tribal Combat. In other words, two big, strong Samoans are going to beat the living daylights out of each other over the title and the right to be the Tribal Chief. Basically that means the loser has to serve the winner, which could be kind of dull if Reigns wins but kind of amazing if Fatu wins.

I’m not sold on the idea but I think I’ll take Fatu to win the title. Raw needs something to really shake things up and Fatu could certainly be that thing. I’m not sure where things go after that, but Fatu could be the one who gets the big push and he could absolutely have it happen here. It’s a pick that doesn’t feel likely, but I want the craziness that comes with Fatu on top of the show.

Overall Thoughts

There is some serious potential with this show, as you have the two World Title matches plus Femi vs. Lesnar, all of which should be outstanding. That leaves the two women’s matches and they both have potential as well. If the crowd is a big factor, we could be in for something special. The other European shows have been that way and there is no reason this shouldn’t be as well.

We’re back to what might be the signature AEW pay per view and the card is certainly big enough. As usual there are a lot of matches and people on this show, with quite a few of them involving high stakes. That includes the main event, which is the rare mask vs. title match. We also have some wacky gimmickery on the docket so let’s get to it.

Kickoff Show: Megan Bayne/Lena Kross vs. Zayda Steel/Viva Van

This is one of the non-title five minute deals as Bayne and Kross get to toy with the two of them for a bit before destroying them. That doesn’t make for the most interesting matches, but it does help when the match is guaranteed to be relatively short. Van and Steel could be any two breathing humans here and it wouldn’t make much of a difference, which is kind of the point.

Of course I’ll take Bayne and Kross to win, as there is no reason to suggest that a makeshit pair, including Van with her one win ever in Ring Of Honor, is going to score the upset. Kross and Bayne are waiting on real challengers to show up and there is a good chance that won’t be until we get to Wembley with the Brawling Birds. For now, they run through another thrown together team in short order.

Kickoff Show: Death Riders vs. Opps

This is a fine example of the “let’s get everyone on the show” match, as there is little reason for the match to be happening other than to fill in time on a pre-show. At least the teams have been having some issues, but it is a little difficult to get excited over a match involving Wheeler Yuta and Hook. It’s a match that feels like it could open any given edition of Collision and that only means so much.

We’ll flip a coin and say the Opps win here, as they could use the victory. This is especially true of Anthony Bowens, who is still new to the team and would benefit from picking up a win. It’s not like Yuta or Daniel Garcia are going to be hurt by taking a loss and Claudio Castagnoli will be there to keep things from getting too dull. The match should be ok, though it’s something that could easily be dropped.

Kickoff Show: Boom & Doom/Conglomeration vs. Shane Taylor Promotions

And we’ll wrap up the pre-show with ten more people in a match, including a way to get QT Marshall of all people on the card. I’m really not sure how much value there is to have Big Boom AJ on the show again but he’s here one more time, likely with his son again as well. Other than that we have the Promotions, who might as well be AEW’s version of the Job Squad given their success rate.

Naturally I’ll take the good guys to win here, as there is really no reason to suggest something else is going to happen. Hopefully they keep this quick, as it’s a match that doesn’t serve much of a purpose on an already crowded show. I’m not sure what the appeal is if having AJ around anymore, but at least it’s mainly just once in awhile and rarely outside of something like this.

Men’s Owen Hart Tournament First Round: Samoa Joe vs. Will Ospreay

So here we have one of the first matches of the tournament and as usual, the two of them have been doing something to set up the match. Joe wanted Ospreay to join the Opps but Ospreay has been training with the Death Riders instead. That’s a fine enough way to go and hopefully they have enough of a story to make this work. Ok to be fair, there is almost no way that Ospreay vs. Joe won’t work in the first place.

I’ll go with Ospreay to win here, as he is fresh off the new training with the Death Riders and is going to be doing some fresh things in the ring. Joe is someone who can work with anyone and it should be a blast to see these two wreck each other for a good while. I can’t imagine Ospreay losing in a tournament with the right to challenge for the World Title in his home country on the line so I’ll go with Ospreay winning here.

Men’s Owen Hart Tournament First Round: Bandido vs. Swerve Strickland

We might as well do the other first round match as well and as usual, the Ring Of Honor World Title hasn’t been mentioned in the slightest. That’s hardly a surprise, as Bandido’s match at Dynasty didn’t see it mentioned whatsoever either. Hopefully the title either moves on or becomes a thing people actually want. Anyway, this is about moving forward towards All In and that should be going in one way.

I can’t imagine this goes anywhere other than Strickland going over, as he’s that much of a bigger star in AEW. Bandido can do just about anything in the ring with anyone but Strickland is someone who should be going forward. It’s going to be a rather awesome match either way due to their impressive talent, though it winds up with Strickland beating Bandido and moving on.

Women’s Owen Hart Tournament First Round: Athena vs. Mina Shirakawa

These two have had some recent interactions in Ring Of Honor, which is better than nothing. This is one of the trickier matches, as both of them tend to lose their bigger matches in AEW. That leaves this as a more of a sad tossup than anything else, as I could see either moving on to lose in the next round. They both need a win of their own though and one stands out more than the other.

I’ll take Athena to win here, as she has the crazy long title reign to make her seem important. Unfortunately that tends to mean absolutely nothing in the long run, but at the moment she’s higher up than Shirakawa. Neither is going to win the whole thing, but Athena going over makes a lot more sense. Now just find a way for Athena to get up to the main roster already because GOOD GRIEF ALREADY!

Women’s Title: Thekla(c) vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Kris Statlander vs. Jamie Hayter

Ah yeah we have title matches on this show too. This is kind of a weird way to go but there is something about having so many challengers trying to take the title. Thekla has done rather well for herself in recent months and become one of the best things in all of AEW. I could go for seeing her keep the title for a good bit longer, though I’m not entirely sure that’s going to happen.

While I could see one of the other three taking the belt here, I’ll go with Thekla retaining. If nothing else, that’s partially due to wanting to see her do her insane yet entertaining promotions from week to week. She’ll have to lose the title one day and that might not be until All In, so for now we’ll go with her stealing the win to retain, possibly with an assist from the rest of the Triangle Of Madness.

Tag Team Titles: FTR(c) vs. Adam Copeland/Christian Cage

This is an I Quit match after FTR beat Copeland and Cage in Canada earlier this year. Since it’s a rematch, Copeland and Cage are putting up their careers (as a team) and that should make it a bit more interesting. In theory it should guarantee how the result goes, though that isn’t always the way AEW goes. I’m kind of curious to see how it goes, which is more than I could say about their first match.

I’ll go with the sake of sanity here and say that Copeland and Cage win the titles and get their big moment. If nothing else, FTR has held the titles for a very long time now and there isn’t much for them to do at the moment. It’s time for someone new to get in the title picture and naturally that means giving the titles to a team who are almost a hundred years old combined. The Canadians win here after things get rather violent.

Chris Jericho/Hurt Syndicate/Elite vs. Demand/Don Callis Family/The Dogs

Oh boy here we go. We have fourteen people in this version of Stadium Stampede and I’m not exactly looking forward to this. These matches wind up being fun, but at the same time it might as well be a short film. This is AEW’s version of a cinematic match as it’s all about doing whatever insanity they get together and think of this time around. Hopefully they don’t go insane with the time, but it’s an AEW pay per view.

I’ll go with the good guys winning here, even if it’s a total guess as to who is going to win this thing. The match is designed to be a big spectacle and nothing more, so hopefully they don’t go too far (ok you know better) and then we move on. If nothing else, Jericho can actually get a win without having to get the win himself. It could be fun, though I’m more than a bit uninterested.

International Title: Kazuchika Okada(c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita

This is one of the longer built matches on the card, as it has been teased for the better part of ever. They had a match back in the Continental Classic, about five months ago, though that was part of a tournament rather than the grudge match they’ve both been wanting. I’m curious to see how it goes, as Okada is capable of having a rather good match if he’s trying. If that’s the case, it should work here.

I’m expecting one of them to be kicked out of the Don Callis Family and that person is going to leave without the title. In this case, I’ll take with Okada retaining the title here, likely with Don Callis turning on Takeshita and setting up a third match down the line. Okada has already held the title for way too long and ultimately Takeshita will take it from him, but I’ll go with AEW waiting a bit longer to pull the trigger.

Continental Title: Jon Moxley(c) vs. Kyle O’Reilly

Here we have another AEW trope: a rematch from a long match from less than a week ago with possibilities of the rematch going even longer. That’s the case here, as we’re just waving the title’s time limit rule (again) after the two of them went to a twenty minute time limit draw on Dynamite. That’s not the most promising thing, though I’d bet on seeing a lot of forearms exchanged, which must be good right?

I’ll go with Moxley retaining here, as the solution for Moxley seems to be “he can have long matches and wins because he’s awesome”. Last year Moxley kept tapping out to O’Reilly but not he even better so he won’t do that again. That seems to be the story here and odds are Moxley needs to get his win back. It should be hard hitting, but you kind of know what you’re getting with Moxley most of the time.

AEW World Title: Darby Allin(c) vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Title vs. hair and…I have no idea where to go here. The idea seems to be that Allin is wearing himself out with the title defenses, though I’m still not sure I can imagine MJF getting the title back so soon. That’s one of the things that makes a match that much more interesting, though Allin’s title reign has already worn me down on him. The matches have been fun, but I don’t really need to see him going crazy long again. So who wins here?

Geez where does this go? The logical way to go would see to be MJF but I’ll go with the twist of Allin retaining and MJF losing his hair. Maybe Allin loses the title soon after, but him losing here seems so simple. MJF losing his hair has some great potential and I could see him going there, but I’m not sure I need to see him get the title back. I’ll take Allin retaining here, though with a grant total of no confidence.

Overall Thoughts

This is a heck of a card and there could be some rather good matches on it, though as usual the idea of how long these matches are going to go is just draining. I’m interested in some of them though and Double Or Nothing does tend to be one of the better shows on AEW’s calendar. The wrestlers will definitely put in the work though, and that’s going to help this go a long way.

Geez it feels like we’ve had almost no time for the fallout since Wrestlemania. It’s weird to see things moving forward so fast and this show feels kind of weak, with most of the matches feeling like they’re just kind of there. That can make for a surprising result but this show could go south in a hurry if it doesn’t exceed expectations. I’ve been surprised before though so let’s get to it.

Miz/Kit Wilson vs. Danhausen/???

We’ll get the worrisome one out of the way from the start, as I’m almost scared of who Danhausen’s partner might be. There are so many people on the roster with nothing to do who could use the spot or who could be a perfect choice for Danhausen, but at the same time, there are some people who would be absolutely horrible choices. I’m scared at the idea of how bad it could go.

Either way, I don’t see any reason for Miz and Wilson to win, because the second Danhausen loses, his career is going to have trouble. I’ll absolutely take Danhausen and his partner to win, but the interesting thing here is who that partner will be. While CM Punk would be perfect for the surprise to pop the crowd, I’ve seen another name out there (which I won’t spoil) which would make me roll my eyes hard. I’ll hope that it’s Punk but I won’t be surprised if it isn’t. Either way, Danhausen’s team wins, because of course.

Iyo Sky vs. Asuka

This is a good example of a story where WWE shot itself in the foot. This story was ALL about Kairi Sane and for reasons of TKO is kind of bad at this stuff, Sane was released before the payoff. Without her, there is far less of a reason for these two to be fighting. Yes there is a story, but before they were fighting over Sane and now Sky is basically playing both her role and Sane’s role, which just makes it more jarring that Sane isn’t there.

I’ll go with Sky winning here to put Asuka in her place and move on. It would be nice for Sane to pop up again for a one off and wrap up her spot in the story before moving on but that might be wishful thinking. Sky shutting Asuka down and possibly getting rid of her for a bit is the way to go, as Asuka could use something of a reset. Either way, it won’t matter without Sane, so spend some of that ridiculous income TKO earned and bring her in for one more night.

US Title: Trick Williams(c) vs. Sami Zayn

Here we have a Wrestlemania rematch and the big story is the double turn from a few weeks ago is basically complete. Williams is feeling like a hot prospect and Zayn is pretty much a heel again. Zayn is already kind of spiraling and that is only going to make him dig into his new side of things that much more. At the same time you have Williams, who looks like he could be ready to become something big in a hurry.

Therefore, I’ll go with Williams overcoming the veteran again to establish himself even more. Outside of some cheating to set up a rubber match between the two of them, I can’t imagine Zayn getting the title back. He can move on to something else after this while Williams does anything other than the US Open Challenge. Williams should win here and I think he will, but it’s not a lock.

Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker

Now we’re getting up to something bigger as we have one of the really personal feuds in WWE today. These two do not like each other and have been fighting for months, including a variety of injuries which have prevented them from having their big showdown. This was going to take place at Wrestlemania but Breakker wasn’t back from his injury in time to make it happen. In other words, this one is a big deal.

I’m going to go with Breakker winning here, as he needs a big win after his return from injury. He lost the biggest singles match of his career to CM Punk back in January and then went on the shelf for a few months. This is where he can regain that momentum and he’s in trouble if Rollins beats him. I’ll take Breakker to win here, and in this case he really needs to go over.

Raw World Title: Roman Reigns(c) vs. Jacob Fatu

This one has me interested because WWE has made Fatu feel like that much of a monster. The Tongan Death Grip looks like the kind of thing that could give Reigns a lot of trouble and while I’m not sold on him winning the title (yet), Reigns is going to have his hands full. In other words, they have done a good job of making this feel bigger than it is, with the personal side of things making it more interesting.

That being said, I can’t imagine Reigns losing the title just a few weeks after winning it in a Wrestlemania main event. Fatu is going to have his day at some point, but I don’t think it happens just yet, not with the Usos running around. There is always the chance that we get a shocking upset, but it makes more sense for Reigns to win here and get ready for a bigger challenger, but Fatu is a rather big challenge in the first place. This should be a heck of a fight, but the champion retains.

Overall Thoughts

This show doesn’t look great on paper, but it still has a chance. If the two big matches deliver and Danhausen’s partner isn’t a letdown, this could wind up being a rather nice night of wrestling. WWE could use that after some of the less than positive stories in recent weeks, but putting that kind of negative atmosphere around the wrestlers can be devastating. I’m not sold on the show, but it could wind up being good enough if things go right.

Well with that out of the way (because I’m absolutely writing this after Night One wrapped up and certainly not a few days in advance of course), we’re on to Night Two, which has the bigger and better main event, plus a rather interesting battle of the monsters. This show looks a lot better on paper, but that’s not how good wrestling is made. I’m hopeful going in so let’s get to it.

Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar

We’ll start big here as this is an absolute showdown between a couple of monsters who have been teasing their big fight for about a month now. Lesnar issued and open challenge for Wrestlemania and Femi is trying his luck. That should be more than enough to make things interesting, but Femi has run through him a few times now and it has me wondering what we might be seeing.

At the end of the day, as hard as it might be to believe, I don’t see a reason to have Femi lose here so we’ll say Femi gets the huge win. Lesnar seems to be wrapping up his career (he’s 48 so it isn’t going to be much longer anyway) and having him lose to some up and coming stars like Femi on the way out is a good way to go. Lesnar is more than a made man so a loss isn’t going to hurt him (never has before) so yeah, Femi gets the big win.

Intercontinental Title: Penta(c) vs. Rusev vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Dragon Lee vs. JD McDonagh vs. Rey Mysterio

It’s Wrestlemania so of course we’re seeing a big multi person mess of a ladder match. As usual, the best thing to do here is just eliminate a few names who aren’t leaving with the title. Therefore, Rusev, Lee and McDonagh are gone, as there’s pretty much no chance they’re winning here. That leaves us with the other three options and that’s not as easy as it should be.

Of the three remaining options, I think I’ll go with Penta to retain. He’s doing well enough as champion and save for Mysterio getting a title win that he absolutely does not need (a possibility), I don’t see anyone but Evans being a serious threat to win the title. Evans winning is absolutely in the cards, but I think they might wait for a bigger moment. Penta wins, with Evans as a legitimate second option.

Smackdown Women’s Title: Jade Cargill(c) vs. Rhea Ripley

Now here we have a match that has my interest, as I’m really not sure where it’s going to go. On one hand you have Ripley as one of the biggest stars women’s wrestling has ever seen, but at the same time you have Cargill, who shouldn’t be losing very often. You also have the Iyo Sky factor, as this whole thing seems primed for her to turn on Ripley and cost her the title. This really could go either way, but it’s only so interesting of a match in the first place.

I’ll go with Cargill to retain, though I’m not sure about Sky turning on her. It’s almost so much of a simple story that I don’t know if I can see it happening. Both Ripley and Cargill need the win, but Ripley can take a loss better than Cargill here. Cargill beating someone on Ripley’s level would help her a bit, as getting to brag doing doing her cocky pin on Ripley would be a big deal. Cargill wins, but it’s probably the least confident I am in anything all weekend.

Dominik Mysterio vs. Finn Balor

Here we have a straight up grudge match as they were partners in Judgment Day for the better part of ever and then Mysterio turned on Balor who wanted to do things the right way. As a result, Mysterio and company turned on him to set up this match. That’s enough to get going here, but Balor is also bringing back the Demon to make things all the more intense.

As much as it would seem to make sense to have Balor win here, I’ll take Mysterio to win. We’ve seen that one of the best things Mysterio can do is brag about his upset wins and this would be pretty high up on the list. Mysterio is someone who could very well wind up in the World Title picture someday and Balor has way too much of a history of choking in big matches. I’ll go with Mysterio to win in a heck of an upset, though again I’m far from sure about it.

US Title: Sami Zayn(c) vs. Trick Williams

This is another match where I’m not sure what is going to happen as it feels like we’re in for a big turn, or maybe even two of them. Zayn seems to be changing over to the side of evil (or at least the side of the middle) while Williams is already one of the most popular stars on the Smackdown roster. Zayn basically won the title to guarantee he’s on the show, but Williams wants to be a big star going forward.

I want to say that Williams wins the title here and becomes a hero, but there might be something bigger in having Zayn cheat to keep Williams from winning the title here and getting it later. I think that’s what we’ll go with here, as Zayn embraces more of the dark side to keep things going the right way, while Williams eventually becomes the cool hero that the fans want him to be.

Raw World Title: CM Punk(c) vs. Roman Reigns

This is the match that interests me the most and it makes sense that it’s the last match taking place over the whole weekend. Punk is the older champion who is trying to hang on against the former champion who wants the top spot back. That is more than enough to carry the feud but dang their promos have been great throughout. This is a match that feels like a tossup and I’ll absolutely take that in a Wrestlemania main event.

As possible as it seems that Reigns gets the title back here, I really don’t see the point in giving him the win. Therefore, I’ll take Punk to retain, with next to no idea who comes after the title next. The best thing I can say here is that this feels like a Wrestlemania main event, which is a lot more than you can say about some of them over the years. I don’t know where this is going and that’s a good feeling to have for a match of this magnitude.

Overall Thoughts

This is a show where the big parts are looking rather good, but the rest is quite a bit weaker. Hopefully there are a few strong surprises in there, though Lesnar vs. Femi and the main event should be enough to carry things. The potential is certainly there, but it’s going to need more than that to pull it off. That very well may be the case, but it’s no guarantee.

Well, here we go. It’s the biggest weekend of the year and…yeah the build for this one hasn’t been great. There are good parts to it, but a lot of what we’ve been seeing has been a bit less than a success. The ticket sales haven’t been great either, likely due to a variety of reasons. Hopefully they can make the wrestling side of things work and that’s what we’re looking at here. Let’s get to it.

Vision/IShowSpeed vs. Usos/LA Knight

So we’re starting with the celebrity match as Speed is dealing with Danhausen’s curse (assuming there is one) and accidentally got himself into this match as a result. Speed thinks he’s ready despite not being a wrestler, though almost everyone else thinks he’s going to get destroyed. This feels like a way to just get people on the show and I’ll take that over some multiman mess.

In theory (as opposed to Theory), this is one sided on paper and while Speed will get to do a thing or two, I can’t possibly imagine the villains win. I’ll take Knight and the Usos winning here as a way to get the crowd going in the right way. They’re a combination of popular stars against some unliked villains and that should be a simple enough formula. Knight and the Usos win a fun one here.

Jacob Fatu vs. Drew McIntyre

For the second year in a row, McIntyre is in a match with a monster which should be incredibly physical. Last year it was a street fight and this year it’s unsanctioned, meaning things should get nuts. That’s where Fatu should thrive and McIntyre can more than hang in a hard hitting match. They hate each other over previous brawls and it’s time for revenge all around.

I’ll go with Fatu here, as he needs the win a lot more than McIntyre, who has had all kinds of moments. Fatu is getting a chance for his first big personal feud match on the major stage and it wouldn’t make a ton of sense to have him lose. These two should beat the fire out of each other until one of them can’t get up anymore and in this case, the one who can’t get up should be McIntyre.

Women’s Intercontinental Title: AJ Lee(c) vs. Becky Lynch

This feud has shown just how good Lynch can be when she goes insane and acts like a raving lunatic, but she has more recently switched into someone who just wants her title back. On the other hand you have Lee, who returned last week and is basically playing with the house’s money. That makes for a good enough story, as this feels like a personal feud where two people want to get at each other, however they choose to do that.

I’m really not sure who wins this one. Lee is doing well in her return and while it makes sense for her to keep it going, I’m not sure I can imagine Lynch losing again. I’ll go with a tentative pick of Lee winning, but this one has me rather confused. It could go either way and while that is usually a good feeling, I’m really not sure how this is going to go. It might wind up being one of the weaker matches, though we’ll say Lee retains either way.

Raw Women’s Title: Stephanie Vaquer(c) vs. Liv Morgan

Morgan won the Royal Rumble (after coming close so many times) and it wasn’t clear which champion she would choose. Eventually she and Vaquer argued enough that Morgan made her choice and it’s turned into a heck of a heated feud, as Morgan seems ready to smash through Vaquer. At the same time Vaquer is just kind of there, feeling like a total afterthought most of the time.

In what might be the easiest pick of the weekend, I’ll take Morgan to win the title here. There is pretty much no reason to believe that Vaquer is going to keep the title. As much as I like Vaquer, Morgan is just that much bigger of a star and it fits so much more to have her win. It’s a good match, but the fans want to cheer Morgan and they’ll get a chance when she wins the title here.

Women’s Tag Team Titles: Irresistible Forces(c) vs. Charlotte/Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley/Lyra Valkyria vs. Bella Twins

So here we have a question mark, as Nikki Bella is injured and might not be able to work the match. That leaves things a lot more wide open, as the Bellas winning the titles felt like the logical ending. If they can’t go though, it makes things a lot more interesting. It helps that you have three teams who could all conceivably leave as champions and the match has been put together rather well.

I’ll throw in an asterisk here, saying that if the Bellas are in then they win, but if they aren’t then the champions retain. The good thing here is I could easily see any of them leaving with the titles, which is more than you get to say about a lot of matches. Bayley and Valkyria feel like dark horses, but I’ll take the Bellas as the favorites but the Forces as the best alternative option. Somehow, this is one of the best built matches on the card and that’s a nice thing to see.

Seth Rollins vs. Gunther

Gunther jumped Rollins to save Paul Heyman a few weeks back, setting up the proverbial “you owe me a favor”. While that sounds like Gunther vs. Brock Lesnar in the latter’s retirement match this year at Summerslam, there is a bit more to it. Gunther has said that he wants to face Rollins because Rollins was all goofy while Gunther wanted to face the best competition in the world and it offended him. That might sound a bit ridiculous, but it makes complete sense for Gunther.

As for a winner…geez this could go either way. Rollins is fresh off his injury and in theory you would want to see him get the big win, but I’m also not sure how logical it is to have Gunther lose here. I’ll go with Rollins winning, as in theory Gunther will be rebuilt on his way to the match with Lesnar (assuming it happens, which it should) later on this year. This could go either way though and it has a lot of potential to be awesome.

Smackdown World Title: Cody Rhodes(c) vs. Randy Orton

We had to get here eventually. This is a match that was going in a weird direction as the fans did not want to boo Orton no matter what. Then Pat McAfee was revealed to be the man influencing Orton and…well they still wouldn’t boo Orton, but they certainly would boo McAfee. I’m not even sure if WWE knows what they’re doing with this story but it’s what we’re getting for a main event. There is also a stipulation that if Orton doesn’t win, McAfee leaves wrestling. Just in case you needed anything to tip this further.

Yeah of course I’m taking Orton here, as there is no reason to suggest that Rhodes retains and gets rid of McAfee. Rhodes has been in something of a holding pattern for a long time as he isn’t doing anything different lately and that needs a shake up. The fans want to see Orton win and while I’m not sure where it goes after that, Orton should win here and move on to whatever he’s doing next.

Overall Thoughts

As risky as it might be to say this, I’m kind of digging this show’s card. They’ve got some interesting stuff here and if these matches deliver, it could be an awesome first half. That being said, the main event has all the signs of being a train wreck and could drag things way down. We’ll call this one cautious optimism though and hope for the best, which has gotten me in trouble before.

It feels like we just had Revolution as AEW doesn’t often do such quick turnarounds. As a result, this show doesn’t feel quite as big as others, though the main event does seem important. So far there aren’t a ton of matches on the card and that gives me some hope, though I have no reason to believe that will last. There is some interesting stuff on the card thus far though so let’s get to it.

Kickoff Show: Alex Windsor vs. Marina Shafir

Here we have the seconds for Will Ospreay and Jon Moxley having a match, which isn’t an awful idea. Windsor has been built up in recent weeks, though that has been as part of a tag team. At the same time, she’s coming off as tough enough to give Shafir a fight, which is hopefully what we’ll be seeing. At the same time, Shafir has been doing a bit more as a singles star in her own right so this could be trouble for Windsor.

It’s a singles match with a tag wrestler so I’ll go with Shafir to win here. It makes more sense for her to get the win as Ospreay can get the real win later. If nothing else, this could set up Shafir getting a partner to face the Brawling Birds. I’m not sure if this is the right choice for a Kickoff Show match, but at least it is set up rather than just a thrown together fight between slightly associated people.

Kickoff Show: Women’s Tag Team Titles: Megan Bayne/Lena Kross(c) vs. Hyan/Maya World

This was set up on Collision as Hyan and World (combined AEW record as a team: 0-5) just announced they were coming for the titles. As usual, winning and losing matches means pretty much nothing around here so this is what we’re getting. I’m fine with Bayne and Kross getting a title defense in, but even an open challenge would have been better than a team with no actual wins together getting the shot.

Of course I’ll take the champions to retain, as Hyan and World’s two match winning streak in Ring Of Honor (it only took them two and a half months) isn’t enough to make me think they’ll pull the upset. Hyan and World are hardly a bad team, but they’re not ready for this kind of a match no matter what they do. I’m not sure why they’re getting the shot, but just go with it and let the champs win a squash.

Kickoff Show: National Title: Jack Perry(c) vs. Mark Davis

This was thrown onto the card on Collision and it doesn’t have much of a build. That’s not a terrible thing as the title is little more than AEW’s version of the TV Title, which is perfect for a random title match. At the same time, Davis has been doing well enough as of late so throwing him out there for the shot is perfectly logical. If nothing else, Perry could use a title win after Ricochet’s time with the title was kind of a mess.

I’ll take Perry to retain here, as there is no reason to believe that Davis is going to get the title so out of nowhere. Perry getting to beat a big powerhouse should work well as he did that for a long time as Jungle Boy. Davis has that rather good looking piledriver and it’s enough of a weapon to make it feel like Perry is in jeopardy. Either way, Perry retains here in what could be a good match.

Women’s Title: Thekla(c) vs. Jamie Hayter

They’re in a weird spot here, as Hayter feels like she is mainly there as a replacement for Toni Storm. At the same time, Hayter is a former Women’s Champion and has the power game to be a perfectly acceptable challenger. Much like Windsor though, she’s mainly been doing tag stuff in recent months and that doesn’t give her the greatest momentum coming into the match.

I’ll take Thekla to retain here, as she’s doing rather well as champion thus far and it’s hard to imagine her dropping the title so soon. She’s also fresh off a feud with a powerhouse in Kris Statlander and I can’t quite imagine her dropping the title to a wrestler that similar to the one she beat for the title. It’s not a total guarantee that Thekla will win, but it’s what winds up happening.

Trios Title: The Dogs(c) vs. Conglomeration/???

The Dogs won the suddenly hot potatoing titles on Collision, which doesn’t quite make sense given their win/loss record but it’s not like these titles have the most logical history in the first place. After the match, the Conglomeration popped up on screen for the challenge, suggesting they’ll have a third man. Since this division isn’t a thing, that’s enough to set up a title match.

While the titles have been bouncing all over the place in recent weeks, I’ll still go with the new champions retaining. I’m assuming that it’s going to be the returning Kyle O’Reilly as the third man so it wouldn’t be the most out of nowhere pairing, but the Dogs need the win a lot more than the Conglomeration. If nothing else, I could go for the titles actually being successfully defended for more than 18 seconds.

Andrade El Idolo vs. Darby Allin

If there is some sanity around here, this should be wrestling 101. Allin is someone the fans have been behind since AEW started and it makes sense for him to want to go after the World Title. If he beats Idolo here, he gets the title shot, which is something that makes all the sense in the world. It’s an idea that has been done for years, but AEW doesn’t always do things that traditional way.

In this case, I’ll take AEW to do the right thing and have Allin win. While I’m sick of all of his antics and “hey look at me get hurt again!” stuff, he’s about as over of a face as there is in AEW. He has a connection with the fans and putting someone like that in the World Title picture writes itself. Hopefully it winds up working out, but it starts out by having Allin beat Idolo here in what could be a heck of a match.

Tag Team Titles: FTR(c) vs. Adam Copeland/Christian Cage

This is a thing and yes the show is taking place in Canada, which should be the big telling point of the whole match. Cage had his arm Pillmanized on Dynamite though and that isn’t going to make things any easier. At the end of the day, this feels like one of the biggest layups on the entire card and in this case, it feels like something that we’re actually going to be seeing.

So yes, I’ll take what feels obvious and go with Copeland and Cage winning the Tag Team Titles. FTR is long established as one of the best teams in AEW history so it’s not like a loss here is going to hurt them. I’m not sure I want to see what feels like the upcoming Copeland/Cage vs. Young Bucks match that has been teased, but for now we’ll at least get step one with new champions.

Young Bucks vs. Konosuke Takeshita/Kazuchika Okada

We might as well get the Bucks out of the way here too. This is more about Takeshita/Okada, as the two of them have been teasing having a big fight for the better part of ever but have only had the Continental Classic match back in December. They’re certainly taking their time here, but it seems that they get to fight each other at Double Or Nothing if they win here.

That being said, I can’t imagine the Bucks losing to a team who can’t get along (talent aside) and the loss can further Okada vs. Takeshita. The match has to happen sooner or later one way or another and this seems to be the catalyst for making it happen. The Bucks can win here and the other two can fight later on while the Bucks likely move back into the title picture. Because of course.

Chris Jericho vs. Ricochet

Yes he’s back and no the fans don’t seem interested. Jericho being back for the first time in about a year is quite the big moment, though having him as a good guy for a change is a big change. I’m not sure where that’s going, but you can almost guarantee Jericho will have a stable around him sooner rather than later. He needs a match to get him going again though and that’s what we have here.

At the end of the day, there is pretty much no reason to believe that Jericho will lose…and that gives me pause. It would make sense for Jericho to win here but he has a history of going in the opposite direction every so often. I just don’t think they’ll do that here though and I’ll take Jericho to win. It’s not really interesting in any way, but it’s the right move for this situation.

TNT Title: Casino Gauntlet Match

Right now, we only have two participants announced so it’s hard to guess about who will really win. The good thing is that AEW is certainly not lacking in talent to go after the title so this could be a rather stacked match. Hopefully we get some surprises in there as well, as those are the kinds of things that make the match that much more fun. The title is vacant coming in though, and that leaves the door wide open.

There are only so many realistic options to pick from and I’ll go with Tommaso Ciampa, as he has been on a roll since he came in to AEW. Hopefully he gets to keep that going and gets Silvie back, as that’s way too good of a name to not let him keep using it. This is one of those matches that could go in a bunch of directions though and I have no idea who will be involved, but I’ll hope for Ciampa, who has made me a fan in a short time.

Continental Title: Jon Moxley(c) vs. Will Ospreay

This is one of those simple ideas that AEW seems to understand rather well. Moxley is back to being a full on villain and Ospreay is the definition of a superhero in wrestling. In this case, Ospreay wants to get some revenge of his own and that should make for a heck of a fight. Moxley can bring it on the big stage and I could go for seeing what he can bring out of Ospreay here.

The match is all about Ospreay wanting to get his hands on Moxley for his injuries last year, but that might get him in trouble here. While I don’t think Ospreay is going to get disqualified, I don’t think he’s going to get the title. I’ll even say this goes to a time limit draw, with Moxley keeping the title and Ospreay gets a rematch for more revenge in a bigger match. For now though, Moxley keeps the belt but takes a beating in the process.

AEW World Title: Maxwell Jacob Friedman(c) vs. Kenny Omega

The idea here is that Omega’s health isn’t holding up and he isn’t what he was before. At the same time, even a diminished Omega is not someone who should be sweating MJF. The thing is, that has been the case with MJF since he won the title the first time and it’s where he tends to thrive. What matters the most is that this feels like a pay per view main event and they should be able to deliver on it.

As much as I think Omega is going to wind up with the title again one day, I don’t think it happens here. While Omega probably doesn’t have much time left in the ring, I’m not seeing the reason to take the title off of MJF so soon. That is going to be a huge moment for someone and Omega isn’t in need for that kind of a win. MJF retains here and gets to soak in the hatred of the Canadian fans.

Overall Thoughts

This card doesn’t feel like some blow away show, but it has the potential to do some good stuff. If they can live up to the usual hype, they’re going to be fine as a few of these matches could steal the show. Then again there is always the chance that more stuff will be added to the card (future edit: yep) to water it down, but at least the version of the show coming into the weekend looks pretty good.

This is a bit of a change to the usual schedule as the show has been moved from its traditional Wrestlemania Weekend spot, which in a way does put more focus on the show. It’s now the biggest wrestling show of the weekend and it gets its of day for a change of pace. The card is still the most important of the year for NXT so hopefully they make it work. Let’s get to it.

Kickoff Show: Hank & Tank/Shiloh Hill/EK Prosper/Wren Sinclair vs. Birthright

Prosper is the new name for Eli Knight because wrestling is weird. This is a rare pre-show match featuring a stable which isn’t exactly feeling like the biggest deal but the other side is quite the mixed grouping. For a match that isn’t likely to get much time and mainly be little more than a way to warm up the audience, it should be a fun way to go and that’s all it needs to be.

Since it’s just a Kickoff Show match, I’ll take the good guys to win here, as it is the kind of win that can wake the fans up a bit and watch an annoying heel group take a loss. At the same time, Birthright isn’t exactly doing well thus far, but it kind of fits well with the people on the team. Maybe they’ll win to give them the tiniest bit of momentum, but I’ll go with the heroes to win here.

Tag Team Titles: Vanity Project(c) vs. Los Americanos

This is one of those ideas that makes all the sense in the world and it should be a nice, basic storytelling device. The Project is a team with very little status in NXT, to the point where they literally fell into some wins. That is something that needs to be developed, even if it is a couple of clueless guys who manage to pull off some upsets. Hence how we’ve gotten here.

Los Americanos are here to make the champs look good, which they will do as the Project retains. It’s a simple idea and something that could go rather well, albeit after a fun match. Los Americanos are a joke everyone gets but they can still do well enough in the ring to make this work. Either way, they’re losing to the Project here, as WWE seems to see a lot in the inept champs.

Women’s North American Title: Tatum Paxley(c) vs. Blake Monroe

I’m already not sure which way to go here, as this one really could go either way. Monroe is a former champion but really doesn’t seem to have gotten very far. She’s ok at what she does, but there isn’t much that really makes her stand out. Winning the title back could help that, but I’m not sure what she is supposed to do then. At the same time you have Paxley, who has turned into something of a breakout star.

I’ll go with Paxley to retain here, though I’m not how sure I am about the pick. Ultimately, Paxley feels like she has the bigger upside as she is just now breaking out on her own. Monroe comes off more like someone who is pretty much exactly what you’ll get out of her no matter what, which doesn’t leave much in the way of development. Paxley winning makes more sense, though it’s far from a guarantee.

North American Title: Myles Borne(c) vs. Johnny Gargano

This is your Special Guest Star match of the show and there are far worse choices. Borne has really blossomed in the last few months and become one of the more reliable midcard hands in NXT. At the same time, he’s still relatively new as champion and there aren’t many better ways to boost him up than by having him defend the title against the most successful (or at least most prolific) champion in history.

I don’t see any reason to expect a title change here, though there is always the chance that Gargano gets the belt back to boost him up a bit. At the same time, that would be a heck of a demotion for him, even if he hasn’t felt like the biggest star on Smackdown. Borne could get a lot out of the win though and we’ll go with him doing just that, as he should given how well things have been going for him in recent months.

Sol Ruca vs. Zaria

Here we have the classic “they were friends and partners but one got jealous” feud, which is something that has worked for years in wrestling and will work well enough for these two. Ultimately though, the problem comes down to one issue: Zaria has never really won anything. Ruca feels like she is on the verge of becoming a much bigger star, but that doesn’t leave much for Zaria to do. That’s where this match comes in.

Unless WWE is just cutting bait on Zaria, she has every reason in the world to win here. Ruca has already won titles and appeared on the main roster. She is more than ready to move on to something bigger. On the other hand you have Zaria, who needs to win SOMETHING and there is no reason to wait on it here. Zaria absolutely needs this one more and I think she’ll get it.

Women’s Title: Jacy Jayne(c) vs. Kendal Grey vs. Lola Vice

Now we get into the complicated stuff as I could see this one going any way. On one hand you have Vice, who has been built up as a big deal time after time but lost every shot. Then you have Grey, who is pretty clearly in line to become a top star in the division before moving up to do the same thing on the main roster. Finally you have Jayne, who has overcome the odds time after time. So where does that leave us?

While my first instinct is to say that Jayne wins here and shocks the audience again, I think I’ll actually take Vice here. At some point, she needs to actually win a singles title and I’ll go with her finally getting some (non AAA Mixed) gold. It’s the match that I’m the least confident in on the entire card, but Vice needs his one more than the other two. Grey will have her time, but it isn’t going to come here.

NXT Title: Joe Hendry(c) vs. Ricky Saints vs. Ethan Page vs. Tony D’Angelo

Finally we have this one, which in a way feels like a souped up triple threat rather than a four way. Saints and Page are basically functioning as a team, though it feels more like a matter of time before they stab each other in the back. Granted that doesn’t mean they’re going to split up for good, but thinking of them as one person makes things a bit less complicated. It just doesn’t really make me any more sure about who is leaving with the title.

I can’t imagine Saints or Page leaving (as much as I could go for Page regaining the title), so that leaves us with two options. D’Angelo has been hunting for the title and it’s pretty much the only thing that he hasn’t won in NXT. That being said, I just can’t imagine Hendry losing the title here, so I’ll take Hendry to retain, likely pinning Page or Saints, and having a singles showdown with D’Angelo later. I could absolutely see D’Angelo winning here, but I’ll officially say Hendry retains.

Overall Thoughts

This show has the potential to be quite the success, though there isn’t a match on the card that feels must see. The good thing is that it very well could be a case of the sum of its parts being better than the individual pieces, and we could be in for a solid night. It’s an experiment which could go rather well and I’m curious to see what NXT can do with this kind of a chance to shine on its own.

We’re back on pay per view and as usual, there is quite the massive card. In this case, the show is headlined by Hangman Page challenging MJF for the World Title in a Texas Death Match, but there are several other titles on the line. That’s pretty normal around here, as is having awesome pay per views, so hopefully they can continue the trend. Let’s get to it.

Zero Hour: Boom & Doom vs. The Infantry

This is the “get Big Boom AJ on the card” match and naturally there are no other options for opponents than two thirds of the Ring Of Honor Six Man Tag Team Champions. This is likely going to be the same as every AJ match has been thus far, meaning it’s going to be a lot better left on the pre-show than anything else. It’s not a match that is going to hurt anything and that makes it the easiest to watch of these three.

Of course I’ll take AJ and Marshall to win, there is no reason for the Infantry to beat the celebrity wrestler. Just let them do their thing and hits the catchphrase with AJ’s son and the Rizzler being there (because that’s still a thing) and we move on. It’s the definition of a harmless match and would be fine as a one off Kickoff Show match, but even as one out of three, it should be ok.

Zero Hour: TBS Title: Willow Nightingale(c) vs. Lena Kross

Since modern wrestling absolutely loves the idea of double champions, this is the first of two title defenses for Nightingale, with Kross being a challenger in both of them as well. This is a good example of a match that should be a Collision main event rather than on the card, but we have to beef the numbers up somehow due to reasons of that’s how AEW tends to work.

I’m actually kind of split on this one, as it would be a bit weird to have Kross lose here if she has another title shot later in the night. At the same time, I’m not sure how much sense it makes to have Kross win the title so soon into her run. Maybe this ends with some sort of interference, but I’ll take Nightingale to retain the title here, as she’s so adorable in general I don’t want her to lose.

Zero Hour: National Title: Battle Royal

So as usual, we only know a few of the participants in the match, which means we could be in for quite the collection of surprises. Ricochet is defending and that should be fine, though you never know what you’re going to see in something like this. Having the title on the line in a battle royal is a way to get the title off of Ricochet without him taking a (nother) pin so they might have an out.

Since we don’t know so much of the field, and the members we do know are not much, I’ll take Ricochet to retain. It’s the kind of thing that can give him a lot of bragging points going forward and that is where he tends to shine. He has to lose the title at some point, but shutting him up with a one on one loss sounds more effective. He’ll keep the title for now at least.

Toni Storm vs. Marina Shafir

These two have been teasing a big fight for a long time now and we’re finally getting to see it take place. That hasn’t really made it feel must see, as Shafir is mainly just a valet/enforcer and Storm is…ok I’m still working on that but she’s different. What matters the most is that this could be quite the intense fight, but I’m not sure where it is going to go in the end.

Despite a feeling that it’s going the other way, I’ll take Storm here. At the end of the day, Shafir has never really shown any interest in becoming a singles star and beating Storm would rocket her up towards the top of the division. Storm overcoming the odds of another monster here makes sense, especially if she’s getting back into the title picture. It feels like Shafir could win, but I’ll take Storm.

Darby Allin/Orange Cassidy/Roderick Strong vs. The Dogs

So this has been built up for a few weeks, as Cassidy has been dealing with the Dogs and finding a single friend to help in the form of Allin. That only got him so far as there were three Dogs, so thankfully Strong popped up to even things out. Now we have a six man tag as a result, though it definitely feels like something that belongs on Dynamite rather than here on pay per view.

I’ll go with the Dogs to win here, as there is pretty much no reason to have them come together and lose in their first big man as a trio. The team is fun together and they’re against a makeshift group of good guys. Let the Dogs win so they can get their feet under them and maybe take the Trios Titles down the line, as at least they’re an actual team rather than some people thrown together.

Trios Titles: Don Callis Family(c) vs. Mistico/Jet Speed

Speaking of makeshift teams in the title picture, we have Mistico and Jet Speed getting a title shot despite having no history as a team. It’s pretty new for Jet Speed, as they won the titles while teaming with Hangman Page, basically from scratch. This feels like a way to get Mistico on the show, and fair enough, but it doesn’t do the titles much good in the process.

I don’t see any reason for the titles to change hands here so we’ll go with the champions retaining. Ultimately, Jet Speed and Mistico aren’t a team and Mistico isn’t going to be around full time (then again neither are the titles), so let the Family retain for a change. It should be a fast paced and entertaining match, but there is no reason to think the titles are changing hands here.

Bandido vs. Andrade El Idolo

Shockingly enough, there is no indication that the Ring Of Honor World Title is on the line here, as I guess Andrade has no interest in the thing. They really seem to just be fighting for the sake of having a fight, which is hardly a great reason to have a pay per view match. Basically it was Bandido’s partner had a match and Bandido wanted one too and here we are.

I don’t see a reason for Bandido to win here, as Andrade is on a roll and Bandido is basically there to add a banger to the card. That’s hardly a great reason to run the match, but at least it should be entertaining. Hopefully it lives up to the hype and leads to a rematch for the title that is right there. It would be even worse for Andrade to beat him and then move on, though there is a very good chance that’s what happens.

Women’s Tag Team Titles: Babes Of Wrath(c) vs. Lena Kross/Megan Bayne

Here we have the second of Nightingale’s title defenses against Kross on the night, which is a pretty weird way to go. This one doesn’t feel so certain though, as the Babes have had the titles for a pretty long while now and it might make sense for them to lose. If nothing else, there is a good chance that Kross does something to weaken Nightingale in their first match to make this an easier victory.

I think I’ll go with the titles changing hands here, as if nothing else, Bayne needs to win something already. She’s an absolute monster but that doesn’t mean much if she never wins a prize. The Babes are more than solidified as a top team so changing the titles is an acceptable result. It should be a fun match, but in theory this is where the titles finally change hands.

Women’s Title: Thekla(c) vs. Kris Statlander

This is 2/3 falls because the show just wasn’t long enough already. These two have been feuding for the better part of ever already and it is high time for the thing to be over. In theory this is going to be the last match between them and the angle on Collision did help boost it up a bit. Ultimately the problem comes down to the fact that Thekla has exploded in recent weeks and that’s a big issue for Statlander.

I’ll take Thekla to retain here, likely two falls to one, as there is pretty much no reason to put the title back on Statlander. She had a lengthy enough run as champion and Thekla is absolutely feeling like the bigger star. Go with the hot hand at the moment, hopefully with something other than that still not so great looking spear, and let Thekla retain on the big stage.

Continental Title: Jon Moxley(c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita

This is one of the bigger matches on the card and it has no time limit, which is almost a scary concept. The good thing is that these two can work very well together on the big stage and if they can make that happen again here, we should be in for a heck of a match. Moxley won the title late last year but couldn’t beat Takeshita, which has been giving him quite the issue.

I’ll go with Takeshita winning the title here though, as Moxley and the Death Riders have mostly dominated the feud with the Don Callis Family and it might be time for the Family to get their big win. It’s a match that absolutely could go either way and I’m probably wrong. The good thing is that it should be an absolute war, which is what you want to see out of these two.

Tag Team Titles: FTR(c) vs. Young Bucks

Yes again. I know this is the big, all time tag feud in AEW but I stopped caring about everything they were doing a long time ago. The good thing is the match is pretty much guaranteed to be a hit, which is about all you can ask for here. This is going to be treated as one of the biggest matches on the card and that does make sense, so hopefully they can live up to the considerable hype.

Since we’re in southern California and it hasn’t happened in a bit, I’ll go with the Bucks to win the titles here. It might not be what I want to see, but the team tends to get a big run with them every year or two. That makes sense given their status in AEW and in theory it is where they’re going here. It should be a heck of a match, with the Bucks winning making the most sense.

Brody King vs. Swerve Strickland

I waited for this one as it’s the match that interests me the most. At the end of the day, these two could beat the living daylights out of each other and that should be a heck of a match. What matters here is having King look like a star against a big name like Strickland, who has already been crazy successful in AEW. This should be quite the showdown and it has all of the potential.

As much as I’d love to see King get a big win, Strickland seems to be on the way back into the World Title picture following his heel turn. Odds are Strickland wins here after one heck of a fight and that has me more than interested. The good thing is they are getting the big chance on the biggest stage and both have been on a roll as of late. Strickland wins, but it’s after an awesome match.

AEW World Title: Maxwell Jacob Friedman(c) vs. Hangman Page

This is another Texas Death Match as Page officially has a signature match (at least it isn’t a bull rope match). The catch here is that if Page loses, he can never challenge for the World Title again. That seems like it’s setting things up to go one way, though it’s also giving me something of a doubt. It feels like everything is set up for MJF to lose, only to retain the title in a shocker.

Therefore, I’ll go with my pick most likely to be wrong and say MJF retains here, possibly with some shenanigans costing Page the match. While I absolutely cannot imagine the idea of Page never challenging for the title again, it just feels too safe for Page to win here. It feels like something where we’re going to see a swerve (not the Strickland kind) and that’s what I’ll take.

Overall Thoughts

Make no mistake about it: this show is going to be long. That’s the AEW way and they’re going to make it happen again here. The card has thirteen matches (yes including the pre-show), with one of them being 2/3 falls and another being no time limit. This is setting up to be a very long show, but the potential for some great stuff is there. AEW has earned the benefit of the doubt, but I’m going to need a nap when they’re done.

Geez it only feels like it’s been about four weeks since the Royal Rumble, mainly because it’s been…well four weeks. This is the second half of the setup shows for Wrestlemania, which is somehow less than two months away. The big thing here is finding out the two other challengers for the World and Women’s Titles, though we also have a pair of grudge matches for titles of their own. Let’s get to it.

Raw World Title: CM Punk(c) vs. Finn Balor

Somehow this is the least interesting match on the card, which is mostly due to the fact that Punk already pinned Balor clean. Now they’re fighting again, in Punk’s backyard, and this time around the question is whether Balor will have help from Judgment Day. Granted he didn’t before, so I’m not sure how much it is going to change things. That doesn’t leave much in the way of drama here, but stranger things have happened.

I’ll take Punk to retain here, as there is pretty much no reason to believe that Balor wins. While there is still time to change the title back to Punk for the match with Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania, I don’t think they would go that fast with things. Therefore, Punk retains after a heck of a match, though this definitely feels like a way to have Balor split off from Judgment Day. Maybe for a match with Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Title at Wrestlemania? Either way, Punk retains here.

Women’s Intercontinental Title: Becky Lynch(c) vs. AJ Lee

Now this one has me curious as I could absolutely see this going either way. Lynch is a big star and has been for a very long time, but Lee is no slouch whatsoever and she’s basically in her adopted hometown (the fans will certainly accept her). The story is that Lynch is going completely insane over Lee, who is stringing her along the entire way. That makes for an interesting situation and I really don’t know who wins.

The more I think about it, the more I think I’ll go with Lynch retaining via some kind of shenanigans. She can find some way to cheat and set up a rematch for the title later on, probably at Wrestlemania, with Lee getting the big moment. It wouldn’t be a stretch to have Lee win the title at some point, but stretching it out seems like has more potential so I’ll take Lee winning the match but not the title, as we’ll go with a DQ or countout. The fans won’t like it, though they’ll be fine when Punk retains instead.

Women’s Elimination Chamber: Tiffany Stratton vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka vs. Kiana James vs. Raquel Rodriguez

The winner of this gets the title shot against Jade Cargill. As a result, we can probably eliminate a few names, such as James, Asuka and…actually that’s it. James isn’t going to happen and Asuka seems to be more in line for a tag match or something involving Kairi Sane. That leaves us with four options and I’m really not sure who to pick between them, which is a nice feeling.

Honestly I’m not sure where to go here, as one would think that Ripley and Bliss would be involved in their respective tag teams at Wrestlemania, but I’m not sure I can imagine Rodriguez or Stratton winning either. Stratton or Ripley seem like the best options and Cargill did take the title from Stratton in the first place. I think I’ll go with Ripley as that’s been teased for a bit and she’s always a safe bet, so we’ll go there for the closest thing to a safe pick in a match that could go any way.

Men’s Elimination Chamber: Randy Orton vs. LA Knight vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Trick Williams vs. Logan Paul

This is for the title shot against Drew McIntyre. Again, we can eliminate a few names, as Evans and Williams aren’t going to win here. Again though, we do have some options for the winner and that makes for some interesting options. Rhodes seems to be the favorite for the whole thing and that would certainly be the safe pick, but there are still choices out there and I’m curious to see what happens.

I’ll take…geez Rhodes feels so tempting but I’m not sold on it being that much of a layup. Orton is always an option and Knight is a dark horse in his own right. I’m not sure I can imagine Paul winning and I’ll write Knight off (but he needs to get into the title picture again soon). Rhodes is the safe bet so I’ll go with him, though hopefully with Jacob Fatu and Sami Zayn being added into the match, as Rhodes vs. McIntyre again sounds dreadful. For now though, I’ll just take Rhodes for the win here, though hopefully that leads to a change.

Overall Thoughts

The show has grown on me in recent weeks as both Chamber matches look good. That’s along with what should be an awesome Punk vs. Balor match and the rather interesting Lynch vs. Lee fight. I can more than go for a card that has the potential to go four out of four, which is always a nice feeling. I’m really not sure who is winning the two Chamber matches and that should be more than enough to carry the show.

It’s that time of year again and…I’m really not sure how. This has been one of the most under the radar builds to the Royal Rumble that I can ever remember, as there is just not much in the way of hype. Neither Rumble really feels like it has a heavy favorite, which is odd as there is a pretty stacked field on the men’s side. That doesn’t mean the show will be bad, but it means they’re fighting an uphill battle. Let’s get to it.

Smackdown World Title: Drew McIntyre(c) vs. Sami Zayn

This is an interesting way to start as it could go either way. Normally this would feel like the token title defense for the champion at the Royal Rumble, where titles rarely (but occasionally) change hands. However, we’re over in Saudi Arabia this year and that means we could be in for a surprise with Zayn. Throw in his all time horrible record against McIntyre and this has all of the makings.

That being said, I’m just not sure I can picture them actually going with the title change here. It would fee like something of a rush, as Zayn hasn’t been built up for that kind of a major title win. I’ll go with Zayn winning the match but not the title, likely through some kind of a DQ etc. Either that or McIntyre pins him and gets quite the heel reaction. I can’t picture Zayn winning the title, but we’ll say he does win the match without becoming champion.

Gunther vs. AJ Styles

Here we have what might be the hardest match to call on the whole show. The idea here is simple: Styles is putting his career on the line and Gunther has a history of ending legends’ careers. Gunther already cheated to beat Styles in a recent match and now we get to see what happens when he has to do it again with some bigger stakes. This is a situation that could go either way and that’s interesting.

Unfortunately I think I’ll take the safe route and say that Styles rides off into the sunset here. While I would like to see Styles get his big retirement year, there is something to be said about Gunther cutting his legs off and wrapping things up early instead. That’s so different than what we saw with John Cena last year and it could be a lot of fun to see Gunther take someone’s career away from them rather than wrapping up their career after they had announced their retirement. I would love to see Styles win, and he might, but I’ll go with Gunther here.

Women’s Royal Rumble

And here we reach the point of “I have no idea”. Both of the Rumbles are wide open this year and that makes for an interesting situation. We could be in for something out of nowhere or it could be one of the relatively safe picks. At the same time, there is always the chance of someone returning as a surprise entrant, as there are only 17 names confirmed as of the day before the show. That’s a lot of options and I’m not sure where to go.

That being said, the other day someone suggested a name and it’s sounding more and more like a possibility: the returning Bianca Belair. She’s been out of action since last year’s WrestleMania (over nine months ago) but the good thing is she’s a big enough star that she could be dropped right back into this spot. While that would be similar to what Charlotte did last year, I’m not sure what better option there really is right now.

Men’s Royal Rumble

We’ll wrap it up here and once again, heck if I know who to pick with this one. There are 18 entrants confirmed for this one and while you can write off a lot of them, none of the remaining options really feels like a surefire winner. That makes for a bit of a confusing match, but at the same time it’s what makes the Rumble feel that much more important. So who wins?

While there are options like Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Cody Rhodes and (the likely) returning Chris Jericho, I’ll go with what feels like a safe pick and say Bron Breakker. He got the big title shot against CM Punk earlier this year and came up just short, so there is something to be said about giving him the big win at WrestleMania to really crown him as the next big thing. That might be what we are seeing, but I have pretty much no confidence in this one.

Overall Thoughts

This is a show that really could go either way and that’s making me nervous. You really could go in a bunch of different directions and that opens up options, but it makes me wonder just how bad those choices could be. Since there is no runaway option for either Rumble, it could make for what feels like a dumb result. Hopefully they make it work, because the build to this show certainly hasn’t felt great.
