Tessa Blanchard Released From Impact Wrestling, World Title Vacated

https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/tessa-blanchard-released-impact-wrestling-world-title-vacated/

This company can’t catch a break sometimes. So believe it or not, Tessa didn’t act very nicely to her employers and more or less refused to do anything for months, including sending in promos the company requested from her.  With her contract expiring before Slammiversary, Impact had hoped to get one more match out of her where she would drop the title but that wasn’t going to happen.  Hence the release and vacating, which is something that had to happen.  It’s a shame that Tessa can’t just get along with someone as she is crazy talented, but doesn’t seem like someone who is ever going to work out long term.  There are always wrestlers like that, and unfortunately they tend to be some of the more talented when the camera is on.

New Column: Dragnet: AEW

I get to play detective and come up with reasons people could have stolen Chris Jericho’s title.  Or maybe I just need to watch Dragnet again.

Chris Jericho Loses AEW World Title

100% serious and in a very interesting way.https://wrestlingrumors.net/tommyhall/breaking-chris-jericho-loses-aew-world-title/

He lost it in that it was stolen out of his limo in Florida.  Its whereabouts aren’t currently known and the Tallahassee police are investigating the theft.  I’m sure they’ll be able to get a new one made in the month they have before the show but dang this is one for the books.

We get a tale of the tape for the main event which is something they should do more often.

Chris Benoit/Rey Mysterio vs. Tajiri/Rhyno

Video on Los Guerreros vs. Haas/Benjamin which is up later for the tag titles.

The Rock is going to be on the cover of GQ.

Shaniqua vs. Nidia/Torrie Wilson

Highlights of Lesnar vs. Angle I and II (Mania and Summerslam).

Eddie gets a sweet arm drag/headscissors combo to take both guys down. Frog splash is broken up and the second attempt is rolled through because Haas moved. Haas grabs some chairs but Chavo pops up to take out Shelton with a dropkick into the chair into the knee. The Guerreros hit something that looked like Haas broke his freaking neck. Brainbuster sets up the Frog Splash and we have new champions.

Rating: B-. Pretty solid match here as both teams know each other very well. They would hold the belts for a little while before the Bashams took them. Chavo would turn heel on Eddie but lose at the Rumble before Eddie would win the world title in February. Anyway pretty fun match here and fine for a TV tag title change.

Everyone is watching on monitors in the back.

Smackdown World Title: Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle

Angle grabs a rollup for two so Brock takes his head off with a clothesline. Brock gets all ticked off and throws Angle over his head without leaving his own feet. Well that was awesome. It only gets two though and both guys are down. Kurt reverses another belly to belly into the ankle lock but Brock rolls through to send Angle to the floor. Angle goes into the steps again and back to the ring we go.

Rating: B. This match runs into the exact same problem that is more or less unavoidable for these matches: you can more or less skip the first 55 minutes and you still see the exciting parts. An hour is too long, even when the guys are having an entertaining match. This was good, but like I said the vast majority of it is just waiting for Angle to make his big comeback. However it does fly by as taking out commercials it runs about 46-48 minutes. Good match, but not a good idea for TV.

Smackdown – June 29, 2012: Raw Is Still On Monday Right?

Do You Know Your Enemy? Mine is yet again this heat wave. Four straight days of over 100 degrees in Kentucky? That needs to be destroyed.

We open with a recap of the triple threat elimination match from Raw.

AJ vs. Layla

Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Zach Ryder vs. Damien Sandow

Summerslam hype video.

Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Jack Swagger vs. Tyson Kidd

We get the McMahon in the hospital moment AGAIN.

We recap the mess that was the contract on the pole match from Monday.

Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Christian/Santino Marella vs. Cody Rhodes/David Otunga

Off to Otunga vs. Marella with the champion hitting his usual stuff. He loads up the Cobra but Cody pulls Otunga to the floor before Santino can cover. Rhodes comes in legally and gets a few two counts before throwing the Cobra sock to the floor. Otunga comes in and drops an elbow for two, followed by a modified camel clutch.

Santino suplexes his way out of it and tags in Christian who cleans house. A flapjack and jumping back elbow to Cody look to set up the Killswitch but Cody escapes. Another attempt is countered but the reverse DDT connects. Otunga breaks up the spear but heel miscommunicatio lets Christian spear Otunga down for the pin at 6:23.

Rating: C-. This was fine and we have a warm body and a comedy character into the match now. To be fair, either team could have won and the results would have been about the same. Otunga is just barely above being a comedy character anyway and Cody and Christian probably have about the same chance to win the case. This was fine but nothing great at all.

Time to waste another minute and a half by talking about This Is Your Life Rock.

Dan Barone/Brendan Burke vs. Ryback

The Raw ReBound is about the ending and the MITB match.

Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Justin Gabriel vs. Tensai

The THIRD Raw Moment of the night is HHH returning from his quad injury in 2002.

Smackdown World Title: Alberto Del Rio vs. Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler tries to jump Sheamus and gets glared at. Sheamus chases him around the ring and runs over Del Rio on the way back in. Del Rio hits the DDT on the arm to take over and hooks an armbar. Sheamus gets sent to the floor and Ziggler follows him out, beating up both guys on the floor. He covers Alberto for two in the ring and dropkicks Sheamus to the floor again.
