I gotta ask, why would you say Warrior was having great back-to-back WM matches at this time? Was it just him being at his peak physically, or having great opponents like Savage to carry him? Probably a bit of both.

Yeah it’s both. Hogan knew exactly how to work that big stadium style show and Savage could walk anyone through a match. Warrior could have a good match with the right opponent in the right circumstances.

I too find the blindfold match very fun. To this day it cracks me up every time I see it from Martel always guessing wrong to Heenan’s awesome commentary throughout the match. I think a solid 7-minute match could’ve been had by these two but I still enjoy what we got.

  3. If I’m not mistaken, this was the last Wrestlemania to feature these many matches but I remember this event so well and the Warrior-Savage match is just the bomb. I’m sorry but you will seldom find another match that can deliver from all fronts the way this one did. While Savage’s match against Steamboat at Wrestlemania III will always be my favorite match, I think his overall performance against the Warrior was some of his best work ever and in my opinion one of the best overall segments the WWE ever produced.

On the plus side, the Roberts/Martel match is no longer the worst blindfold match of all time. The Chris Harris vs. James Storm match at Lockdown 2007 now holds that “prestigious” accolade.

I can still vividly remember Rick Martel’s ‘blind’ acting. It consisted of him sticking his arse out a lot.

While it is not a classic or something I would want to watch over and over again, I feel like the Jake/Martel blindfold match is better than a F; both men do a good job acting without showing their face and the audience is hot enough that their participation makes it enjoyable for a little while. It goes on way too long and is sort of novelty appeal at best, but it’s not the worst thing I’ve seen.
