New Column: The Balor Problem

I think you get this one as I look at why Balor isn’t working, which really makes no sense.

  1. Conor says:

Imo Bálor is good but bland in the ring and in terms of character. I find his matches can be quite depthless, he’s like a PlayStation character going through the motions rather smoothly but without any interesting story hook. I can’t remember a particularly strong promo from him either.

And the demon gimmick is just stupid. He barely wrestles any differently when he’s wearing it. It’s just dress up for the big shows. Add in the fact that he’s in his late 30s and has a couple of injuries under his belt and you can see why they’d only push him to a certain level.

I don’t even dislike the guy, I just think he’s overrated by some fans. To me he’s a guy who is a victim of Lesnar hogging the title for so long. With a permanent world champion he would probably have had a couple of PPV title matches by now and would comfortably be in the IC title mix if they didn’t have to push it to the top of the card in Lesnar’s absence. If they had stronger depth in the Raw midcard he would thrive because I think he’s more suitable to be king of the midcard who gets occasional top title shots than a tip top guy himself.

  2. Dragon says:

I think Balor is decent in the ring (but needs to add some variety) but yes his character is bland as hell….I think it would be best to align him with The Club…..

  3. Aeon Mathix says:

If only BaconBits frequented your site. He would lose his shit at this column XD

Yeah he was a bit of an inspiration this week.

  4. Jay H (the real one) says:

I think Finn Balor can be a top tier guy in the Company especially since he is over (which i don’t buy for a minute that Vince doesn’t think he is) and he’s one of the top merchandise sellers for WWE.
