I’m only 2 PPVs into my WCW run (started with Starrcade 97) and the NWO is starting to grate already. Some observations:

So many empty seats?? Really weird to see that with all the star power on board.

Not sure if fans are Pro NWO. Seems about 60/40 to WCW.

Hogan can’t actually wrestle at this point, right? Back then, did people actually buy him being Champ? He’s ‘only’ 45 at this point but he looks well shot.

Scott Hall is embarassing. Dude is just stumbling around like a dishevelled mess, and he’s like the star of the PPV!! He’s so hammered he actually zig-zags down to the ring for his run-in.

Benoit is just over. The dude had a unique gift. Shame he ruined his body with too much juice in WWE.

The more I watch, the more I think that Nash, Hogan and Hall actually did destroy the WCW.

Jesus Christ can Bret Hart execute a move or 2. And as for his moves never working, HELLO?!?! KB you diappoint me, I’m almost 100% certain Bret Hart went on a run on Superstars or something where he beat people like Bezerker, Doink, Papa Shango etc and the 5 moves of doom were written into folklore…..

Wasn’t Flair injured a few days before Starrcade, which is why he didn’t have his final match with Hennig at the time?

You know, it’s interesting to read about how good of a pay-per-view this was years later. When I saw it, I was still affected by the bad taste that Starrcade 1997 left in my mouth that I began to lose faith in WCW to be able to put on good PPVs. This was a good event but just had the wrong main event.
