Did you actually just call Eric “Fat Ass” Esch “a REAL world boxing champion” there? Oh, yeah that “IBA Super Heavyweight Belt” that’s totally a real title. Never mind that it was only defended in 4-round fights. Never mind that Esch was so protected and babied that at one point he fought SIX consecutive opponents who had never won a fight. (The guy before that string was 1-15-1, clearly too high a threshold for Esch-hole.) Never mind that when the 15-0 Esch finally did lose, it was to Mitchell Rose, who was 1-7-1 coming into the match, yet easily knocked out Esch because he knew tricky stuff like how to throw a jab, block punches, and move. (Afterwards, promoter Bob Arum screamed at Esch’s management for overbooking him, saying they should have known that Rose, a nobody from nowhere, was too tough.)

He was a joke that made a joke out of boxing, going on “The Tonight Show” and looking like some demented Baby New Year in his American flag diaper, I mean trunks. He was protected, spoon fed, probably had fights fixed in his favor, and promulgated the destructive idea that boxing had nothing to do with skill, timing, defense, movement or strategy, just have two big guys flail like drunks in a bar, er, I mean a “Toughman contest” and that’s totally the same thing. He’s the reason I can’t watch MMA, to this day, knowing that it evolved out of the same cesspool that Bubblebutt did. (He also legally changed his name to “Blubberass” or “Butteredbuns” or whatever, thus becoming even more of a joke.) To claim this loser is any sort of a boxer is ridiculous.

And wow, this is the exciting Austin-Rock war that I missed by boycotting WWF after ’97? Doesn’t sound very impressive. Have to think the Flair-Hogan double-turn inexplicable booking at Uncensored the week before was actually better. Sheesh.
