In this case, it’s really not hard to figure out why. Last night was all about trying to keep the fans watching during the start of Monday Night Football, but why would I keep watching for a brawl, as in not a match, as the big showdown at the end of the show? The Wyatts interrupting the League was really interesting and then the Wyatts were out first at the hands of Tommy Dreamer, thereby ending the Wyatts’ interaction with the League for the night.
In other words: potential at the start, then back to the same boring stuff they’ve done for weeks now.
It’ll go down again next week unless they advertise a return or something to reach for new viewers. Ratings for a single show are hardly a view on that show itself, but rather the previous few shows, and since they’ve sucked (based on your reviews) it keeps dropping.
Prediction:
The authority shows up next week after ads for their return are all over the other shows, making the rating go up slightly and further inflating HHH and Stephanie’s idea that they are draws (when in reality the only reason people watch their segments is because they’re the only people allowed to have an influence on the major plot)
It’s funny, really, the IWC loveboys are dropping like flies and it’s getting to the point where they’re only watching because “it’s what they always do”. It’s been a long long time since the core fan base was tested as hard as right now, and with little reason to keep watching at all I’m actually kind of excited to see how long that audience can hold on.
There’s a major thing in there that you hit on: advertising something in advance.
I can’t remember the last time something big was announced in advance for Raw. If you want to know what’s going on that week, you have to watch from the start. Give me something to look forward to and I might get into it. Until then though, it’s the same stuff over and over again.
Cena and Lesnar will be back next month, the ratings will be fine.
