I can’t wait to see that big beautiful gold belt again.
Why would any GM specifically ask for one tag team wrestler when the tag team counts as one pick?
Kayfabe reasoning: It ensues that they won’t be tagging with each other if you believe one member of the team is a star and the other is a scrub( like Kalisto and Sin Cara)
Real logic: It’s the easiest way to spilt a tag team without doing a heel turn and allows you to spilt to competent singles guys who are teaming up( like Enzo and Cass)
I don’t get the problem you guys have with the rules so far. Raw getting MORE wrestlers is simpel logic: Raw is longer then Smackdown. In fact, it’s one third longer than Smackdown and therefore needs one third more wrestlers to fill the timeslot. Simple maths. The Rock and Undertaker can’t be drafted because they are very irregular wrestlers that show up maybe twice a year and simply don’t need a brand, they could show up at either show at any time which I can only see as a good thing. Besides, how long has Undertaker been a Smackdown guy in the past?
Don’t get me wrong, I suspect Smackdown will be inferior to Raw and that’s a bad thing… But there is absolutely nothing in the draft rules that confirms this so I’m not gonna bash WWE before I get some facts.
That’s exactly the problem.
Raw is longer. Raw has more wrestlers. Raw has the first pick. Raw has a cruiserweight division.
I’m dreading the draft. Here’s hoping they don’t just introduce a second world/tag/womens title as that is the laziest form of booking they could go for. Do something unique and creative like building the IC title as the main title of Smackdown or build the Tag Titles on Smackdown into glory as all the teams try to end the New Day’s year long reign.
Ah yes because leaving one show as a lame duck without having the title is very smart. Hey it adds prestige and makes one show automatically matter less.
Also if you build the IC title as the main title of SD, wouldn’t the IC title then become oh I don’t know, the world title?
Can I just say I think with Smackdown going Live I think it will be treated as an equal and will be given enough star power. As far as the NXT picks go I think at least Finn Balor,American Alpha,and Bayley are getting the call. I can see Samoa Joe despite being NXT Champion could get moved up and work double duty for a bit like Kevin Owens did last year.
I have also read they plan on breaking out New Sets for both Shows.
I wonder who the NXT folks drafted will be? I can think of 3 locks but the other 3 are mysterious.
Perhaps I’m way overreacting to this, but I absolutely hate the idea of Brand Split now.
One thing that MUST happen – Smackdown must be seen as equal to Raw.
Otherwise it won’t work. That’s why the first one didn’t (by the end).
Summary please, I’m not clicking on a WWE link. Phones in Nigeria have not evolved to the point of processing that website.
I’ll try to cover pretty much everything.
Rules
— Raw has the first pick.
— For every two picks Smackdown gets, Raw gets three. (Since Raw is an hour longer) It’s still ridiculous as it’s clear Smackdown will continue to be seen as inferior to Raw.
— Tag teams count as one pick unless the commissioner or GM specifically wants just one member.
— Six draft picks will be made off the NXT roster. (Not sure if altogether or individually. Probably altogether so NXT won’t lose all of its talent)
Few Other Notes
— The Lucha Dragons and Wyatt Family are listed individually instead of as tag teams. It seems like they’re splitting them up.
— Everyone listed at this link below is eligible.
