I actually thought Stephanie on commentary was…tolerable. She wasn’t very good (she actually had the vibe of like a fan, as she just kept saying things like “___ is almost out; is she going to survive?” or “Oooh, welcome back, ____!”) and she had kind of an annoying delivery like she seemed detached than what was going on…but she wasn’t her usual nails on the chalkboard self and at the very least avoided playing her typical corporate persona. That said, she was pointless.

For their first ever Women’s Rumble, this was more than perfectly acceptable. However, the criticism that they focused on Legends is a legit one, and something they need to address next year. Then again, they could always just hire more NXT talent for their women’s division in the next 365 days, so it should be addressed by the 2019 Rumble. Very happy with the way things ended up, and even if Mania 34 is going to have ANOTHER Roman main event, at least we’ll have Styles/Nakamura, Asuka/Alexa or Asuka/Charlotte, and Ronda Rousey doing SOMETHING(her with Angle vs. Steph/HHH would be a fine spectacle match).

With a day’s hindsight, I think the men’s rumble is going to hold up better than the women’s rumble, mostly because in looking back, far too many eliminations in the women’s came at the hands of the legends. I haven’t counted, but Michelle’s dominance, and with each legend coming back and having 1-2 eliminations, I think they fared far better than the current wrestlers, and that’s not a good thing in the long run.

That said, I had great fun watching it last night so it’s not a big deal, I don’t think.

My only qualm with this show, was the booking of the female legends. Torrie and Kelly should have been Peyton and Billie, or even Nikki Cross. And the amount of eliminations they scored was ridiculous. Nikki and McCool came off as MVPs, and those number could have gone to Nia, Becky, Sasha, or even Bayley, who was an afterthought and should have been in at #1.

Great review! I enjoied this year’s Rumble a lot.

The title you put describes my thoughts exactly. It has been awhile since I liked a WWE show this much.

Only complaint was I thought Nakamura had an awful performance. Don’t know if that was just my perception or if he was trying to conserve energy but he just looked off.

Where do you think the men’s rumble ranks in terms of Rumble matches?

  7. M.R. says:

How dare you disrespect Torrie Wilson like this.

  8. Prophet says:

What was with so many of the women just chilling on the outside?

It seemed like they all took turns just taking a break for a bit.

Fun show. Knowing Rousey’s theme I marked like crazy without even seeing her. They booked the Rumbles great I think with the two favourites going against the two most likely second options in the final 2’s.

An excellent Royal Rumble and so glad both my picks in won their respective Rumble Matches. I think the RAW Tag Title Match & Smackdown Tag Title Matches were the only two Matches i missed.

Good to see Rey Mysterio back, wonder if he’s sticking around for one more run. I think my favorite part of the Womens Match besides Asuka winning was the Trish/Mickie confrontation.

Also can’t wait for AJ & Nakamura at WM 34.

That was a good show except the womens rumble sucked other than the performances of trish, michelle mccool, and carmella. Too many botches. There wasnt even any contact made on the kick of the final elimination. And Sasha Banks had one of the most worthless long runs in a rumble. Her corner kicks were noticeably not making contact. The mens rumble should have closed the show.

    • Thomas Hall says:

I don’t even notice the botches in the women’s matches anymore (I know they’re there) as they’re just a thing you have to accept. I’m just glad Nikki didn’t manage to botch it even further.

I’m fine with the women closing as it’s historic. It’s cool to have something they’ve done now and even if it never happens again, it’s happened now.

  11. Eanna says:

Asuka slapped away Rousey’s hand, not the other way around. How on earth did you miss that?

    • Thomas Hall says:

Kind of having a good time. Sorry to upset you.

      • Eanna says:

You didn’t upset me. Just kinda wondering how you missed that. Twas clear as day.

Also that’s the reply you’re going with? At least own up to your own mistakes my man.

        • Thomas Hall says:

I tend to. I also tend to get annoyed when it comes off as (and I emphasize comes off as rather than meant as) “you’re so stupid you can’t even pay attention and I’m smarter than you because I can point out your mistakes”.
