    1) This is very similar to Diesal in 1995. When they turned the badass that the crowd loved into the smiling corporate champion.

    2) I still say their best course of action is have Reigns lose at Mania and have Lesnar drop belt at Raw to a surprise like Balor or Rollins.

The problem with your second point is that Lesners deals ends at Mania 34 so we could end up with a double J scrnario from 1998.

I said this on my show last night and I think it holds true. A long time ago, WWE decided that Reigns was their guy, except for one tiny problem. To make him THE guy, they keep making him into OTHER guys. After the Shield Split, he was cutting long, corny promos and smiling. In other words, they were trying to make him into Cena. The fans rejected it.

A year later, he was “screwed” at Survivor Series and it was decided that the Authority didn’t want him to be champion. Now he had to fight authority to become the guy. In other words, they were trying to make him Stone Cold. The fans rejected it.

Last year, WWE thought that maybe if he did the incredible and beat the Undertaker, that fans would appreciate how rare and special a talent he was. He’d talk little and show off his power a lot. In other words, they were trying to make him Brock Lesnar. The fans rejected it (big time).

Now this year, he’s breaking the fourth wall and “going off script” and fighting against Vince’s “boy”. In other words, they’re trying to make him into CM Punk from 2011.

All of those performers found characters that were extensions of them. I still have no idea who Roman Reigns is because they keep trying to show us that he’s another former successful character. They assume that if we liked it once, we’ll like it again and that’ll make people like Reigns. It won’t. What might is Roman finding his own voice. I’m still awaiting that.

      You’ve got something there.

I know nothing about Reigns’ personality. I know his family and I know that he was a college football star, but who is he? Seth Rollins is the guy who is always thinking and planning but he’s also trying to redeem himself after taking a shortcut to the World Title. Dean Ambrose takes life one day at a time, values loyalty above all else and never met a fight that he didn’t like.

Reigns…..I’ve got nothing. He wants to be World Champion again, but that’s the case for everyone. He’s just kind of there and has big matches. I have no connection to him and I don’t think the people putting the shows together to either.
