KB this is a great article and I see your point. I may be in the minority here but I prefer long title reigns as opposed to playing hot potato with any title. I bought my first PPV at the age of 9 in 1988 (Summerslam) and haven’t missed a Prime Time/Raw/Nitro or PPV since and about the only familiar thing left from the “glory days” are long reigns. Finishers don’t matter any more, PPV is just like any given RAW, and there are no more “characters” these days. Great matches today but little to no storylines. Call me a traditionalist (and there may be no room for traditionalists in todays product) but it just feels right to have a champion with a long reign and appearances that feel important cause the Champ is here.

How impressive can a Record truly be when that Jackoff can pick and choose when he defends the thing 3 times a year at most?

I believe that today’s WWE is no place for long title reigns. There’s too much TV and exposure for it not to get very tedious. And beyond that, when it’s a “long reign”, it has to be ended in a major moment. So, any show that isn’t major, we know won’t be the end. It makes a lot of stuff lack importance.
