To play devil’s advocate, NXT is not watched my near as many as main roster. So when these names are called up many people have no idea who they are. This could be WWE’s way of reasoning for tweaking their gimmicks.

Something I never understood is why doesn’t WWE just utilize NXT wrestlers how they were used in NXT? Like Bobby Roode was a great heel champion that you wanted to see lose but he kept winning because he was good and knew it. Kevin Owens was a killer that fought for his family and while admirable did despicable things to ones he used to call friends in order to do what he thought was right. List goes on but KB covered it good enough in his column the other day.

Unless WWE creative or Vince himself just doesn’t pay attention to NXT, I don’t get why they wouldn’t see what is rocking down there and bring it to a bigger stage. Johnny Gargano having classic after classic on the main roster with guys like Bryan, Joe, Styles etc. wouldn’t be as acceptable to a larger audience as being in random 5 minute cruiserweight title matches on Main Event?

Like the saying goes: you can have all the best sports players on your team, but It’s how you use them that matters. WWE has been signing a huge number of wrestlers for a while now, having them on NXT does wonders for them, but once they get called up to the main roster, it’s a whole different story. Every NXT call-up is an example of the WWE creative staff not knowing what the hell to do with them and those call-ups end up floundering as a result of this. We know that the amount of money that They’re getting, what’s to stop WWE from raiding Every Wrestling promotions entire roster. There is truth to the comments that fans say, that WWE only signs wrestlers in order to keep them from other companies and that business tactics are shady, as evident with them being in contact with Wrestlers who are under contract with another company. I’m truly worried about the state of the pro wrestling business going forward, if WWE keeps signing boatloads of people, then the bottom is gonna drop out.

Yeah, it’s sad. Glad you’ve mentioned Tyle Breeze cause he is maybe the most wasted opportunity from all the NXT call ups. He kinda reminds of the young Shawn Michales playing the arrogant heel but he also has lots of babyface potential. He’s still young and i still believe he will get his breakthrough on the main roster. They can’t be this blind.

The problem is that there is no competition for the WWE. Most american wrestlers are using promotions like IMPACT, ROH, PWG or EVOLVE as a springboard to the big league. WWE can sign nearly everyone if they like to and in the last few years they extensively just do it that way. I mean, who wasn’t kind of suprised to see guys like Eric Young or Bobby Roode pop up on NXT? On one hand it’s amazing to see all the talent the Indies have to offer on the other hand, speaking as a Wrestling fan, it’s sad when you see how they are used on the WWE main roster.

The point is, it’s just total overkill. You can’t push everyone and that’s why all these talents are wasted. Also you have guys like Orton, Ziggler, Reigns, Sheamus, Mahal, maybe even Cena who are either stale since many years or flat out not accepted from the crowd. But still they take the TV time that guys like Tyler could use. Sure, i mean where should Orton or Ziggler go? There’s no real alternative for older stars like them…

You’re also mentioning that NXT makes a great job for many years. That’s true. But they also have the enormous advantage that they have an ever changing roster that gets fed by all the great Indies and promising homegrown talent. Things don’t, yeah the even CAN’T get stale. I don’t want to defend the booking of the main roster (it’s still horrible most of the time) but they have a harder job than the bookers in NXT despite all the TV time. But less is more most of the time!

The Attitude era also worked so well cause they had the “perfect” sized roster for the TV time they had. And the roster was well structured. They focused on 5 to 6 main eventers, most of them which were fresh, motivated and getting better every day. They had a midcard with straight comedy guys OR work horses and they all HAD to try back then, with WCW overdoing them in terms of ratings. Now it’s just too much. If you look on the main roster you have at least 20 guys who would make a worthy Heavyweight Champion and that’s just too much…

I don’t recall which may prove your point. His Universal title win and one other for sure……maybe against Bray Wyatt?

I don’t remember either. All I remember is Cole saying over and over “the Demon will be at Summerslam” and explaining the idea. The Demon isn’t really something that needs much of an explanation.

Good article KB, with only one disagreement. I do not think there is a need to see Balor’s demon character more than once or twice a year. No need to overexpose it.

Once or twice a year is fine. Has it been twice since he’s been on the main roster though?
