Regarding A Certain Post From Earlier This Week

So this was discussed quite a bit earlier this week and probably needs some clarification.

A few days ago a certain post went up and it was pretty clearly not something I typically would do. As you can probably guess, no it’s not something I wrote and yes it was something someone sent me in exchange for compensation. These happen every now and then as someone will email me with an offer for one and I’ll usually put them up. It’s basically two days worth of money for about ten seconds work, which is practically impossible to pass up.

Now I know that some of you have some issues with it, and I’ll try to address some of them.

1. I’m usually not allowed to acknowledge them as what they are, which is why I never reply to comments about them. I haven’t been hacked or anything like that and I put them up on my own.

2. They won’t be frequent. As in there might be five a year, if that. There’s no schedule for when I get them and it really is something that happens out of the blue.

3. The content is almost always going to be something gambling related, which tends to be the case every single time. I have no real control over this, though some of them have been written with a wrestling theme before. I’m aware that some people aren’t comfortable with gambling/casino related stuff, but that’s all I’m given and I can’t really pass them up.   As someone who played cards for money almost daily in high school and college and literally carried a deck of cards with me every day, I’d be a bit hypocritical to have an issue with it now.

I know these things can be a bit annoying but they’re very infrequent and from a personal standpoint, it would be rather foolish of me to pass up such an opportunity. Like I said, they only come up every now and then and while I can’t give you a schedule or anything for them, they’re not going to be a regular thing by any normal definition. I understand that some of you have some issues with them, but they’re kind of a necessary action for me.

If there’s anything I left out, please let me know.

That’s so strange that you can’t use the word ad or sponsor with these things. On YouTube it’s the opposite, you’re not allowed to NOT say when it’s a sponsor.

    Thanks for the clarification!

I believe Ted is right. The FTC DOES require that if you get “Sponsored content” you are to specifically state that.

Are you able to do that thing where you say “The following is an advertisement. The views expressed do not necessarily reflect KBWrestling Reviews”?

    • Thomas Hall says:

I can’t. For some reason, one of the standard rules is that it can’t say ad. I guess they’re supposed to seem natural, though some are a bit more authentic seeming than others.

I think we all kind of know what they are, and now, knowing it’s not a hack, it’ll be easier to just ignore and keep scrolling.

      • Ted says:

I’m pretty sure you are supposed to clearly mark somewhere that it is an ad. At least according to the FTC, you do.
