“Even less selling. It’s a bunch of spots and shots to the head with both of them popping right back up”.

Come on dude..you know its in NXT as well and has been forever (to be fair i have noticed you point it out more recently). Im not making excuses as i know Omega is known for it but its ridiculous to think NXT isnt worse a lot of the time than any Omega or Young Bucks match.

Im pretty sure i can count at least 100 superkicks between Gargano and Cole in their last few matches alone.

    • Thomas Hall says:

I knocked all three Gargano vs. Cole matches down a bit for those, though they were better. Also, they’re both better at selling than Omega. But yeah NXT does do it as well, though not as often.

      • Shane says:

They do it every takeover..sometimes every match. It became a comedy show the takeovers i hosted at my house with gargano/ciampa especially where we would be like “oh he got dropped on concrete he will still kick out, hey he did! And hes flipping around the place 2 seconds later!” Even Bate vs Walter there were numerous times it wasnt believable that bate could get up again after what happened.

Again i get it im not defending Omega or anything i already agreed but i feel as if you are very NXT biased. almost all their matches have no selling and spammed moves.

        • Thomas Hall says:

True, but they’re a bit different of a comparison to make. A lot of why the hatred and willingness to keep fighting works is due to their emotions towards each other.

Now, that’s not on Omega and Pac as their match was set up in a hurry due to Moxley’s injury. There’s something about Omega where I don’t buy that he’s in trouble or that the match could end at any time. Maybe it’s his selling or the way the matches don’t really build on themselves but it’s always been an issue for him.

And indeed I am biased towards NXT as it’s my favorite promotion. I try not to be but there isn’t much of a way around it.

  2. Aeon Mathix says:

I would guess it’s because nothing sounded interesting or exciting on this show. I was only looking forward to Omega/Mox which was scrapped and the tag ladder match which I’ve seen both teams have much better matches before.

Not to mention Chris Jericho vs Adam Page sounds boring on it’s own much less the companies first world title match. I probably would have saved the Omega/Jericho rematch for this show for the title.

Also Shawn Spears is still the boring Tye Dillinger in the eyes of a lot of fans. Cody has never been that great either so that match didnt sound very appealing.

Finally I think it’s common knowledge now that PAC is just a whiner and people are just waiting for him to dip again if he doesnt get his way which probably didn’t do his match with Omega any favors.

  3. Undying says:

You mean the company is starting to look like an indy company with a big budget? Maybe if they had actual stars that will bring in eyes to the product. Their two biggest are Moxley and Jericho because of their WWE stardom.

And if Jericho keep looking like the shape that’s hes in people aren’t going to tune in because of Jericho. They are going to see him on a new wrestling show with a bunch of nobodies old and out of shape wondering damn how far did Y2J fall? He looks like Mickey Rourke from the wrestler now.

  4. M@$0N says:

The salt is real here, my God. I’ve watched or seen like five different reviews before this one, and they had criticisms of the main event and Dark Order match too; here, it feels like this show could’ve consisted of Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at WM 25, Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat from WM 3, Bret vs Owen WM 10 and SS 94, and Bret vs British Bulldog SS 92 and you would’ve given it a C-.

    • BestSportsEntertainer says:

KB gave Double or Nothing an “A-” and Fyter Fest a “B+”.

      He isn’t biased against AEW.

      • M@$0N says:

I’m not saying he’s biased against AEW, I’m saying that I think he was WAY too negative on this show in particular. Literally, I’ve heard no complaints from anyone else (and I’ve listened to half a dozen reviews at this point, excluding this one) about anything other than the Dark Order match and the main event.

        • Thomas Hall says:

Oh I’m pretty sure there are some that are near my same ratings out there.

          • M@$0N says:

“Oh I’m pretty sure there are some that are near my same ratings out there.” I’m sure there are too, and their last names are probably Russo and Cornette. But as far as actual credible reviews, some from people who have been watching wrestling anywhere from 20+ to 30+ years, I’ve not heard one even remotely as critical as yours, and they had criticisms as well. “Oh, too long”; you mean like every other wrestling show? “Oh, spot fest”; then why do you like Undertaker vs Michaels at WM 25 because that’s basically what that was. “Oh they rushed this match with no build”; yeah, no duh, because was a match that was set a week ago because Jon Moxley almost died. “Oh, no one is interested in seeing this women’s match”; really, because everyone else I’ve heard from is excited to see it.

This guy has been reviewing since about the time I was in kindergarten. Sounds rather similar to mine.

          • M@$0N says:

And that’s, what, one guy? I’ve heard or read close to a dozen at this point. And there are probably more, but for every one of yours and this guy there are 10 of the complete opposite opinion. Think I’m exaggerating? One of the reviewers I listened to put up a poll at the end of the show and as of writing this it has almost 3,700 votes with 83% voting “Thumbs Up.”

          • Thomas Hall says:

Good for them. I thought otherwise.

          • M@$0N says:

Suit yourself, WWE has all the POS product chop full of Baron Corbin, Lacey Evans, Shane McMahon, 60 year old HHH, Charlotte and jokes about the toilet that you could hope for.

          • NightShiftLoser says:

My personal opinion of Russo aside, I don’t think it’s a bad thing to be told your similar to Cornette (no explanation needed) or Russo (one of the main writers during the era EVERYONE wishes would come back for some reason).

          • M@$0N says:

You don’t think it’s bad to be compared to Russo (who creatively bankrupted and killed WCW and TNA) or Cornette (who’s made a career out of doing nothing but complaining about everything wrestling related for the last twenty years?)

    • Jordan says:

I mean, I don’t like current WWE at all and I was hoping for AEW to knock it out of the park and they just didn’t. I thought Double or Nothing was great but everything since has been inferior IMO. Most of this card was average at best. I liked Cody/Spears way more than KB and I thought Kenny/Pac told a good story but I agree with everything else.

The women’s battle royal sucked and the division has been disappointing to say the least with Kenny pushing these Japanese women that no one knows and/or cares about. The tag matches are just a collection of spots with zero psychology or storytelling. They established a big fight feel for Jericho/Page but the match was kind of a letdown, probably because it ran too long. Perhaps a C is a bit harsh for this show, but this wasn’t some A level classic by any means.

      • underdonemist says:

yeah, it was kind of underwhelming in some stages. My hope is that their next ppv will be much better due to them already having tv.

  5. Pug the ripper says:

I’ll tell you the biggest mistake AEW made on this show and that was having their inaugural championship match on it. Adam Page isn’t established and while Jericho’s character work maybe top notch his matches aren’t anymore. So combine this with the fact they had a crazy ass ladder match right before it they were doomed. In my opinion they should have waited until the show in October and had the match there. I believe it would have been better received in that spot.

  6. Snappy51 says:

Wow. You really seemed to be nitpicky here, or just in a bad mood or something yesterday. I usually rush to read these reviews, but it seemed right from the start you just didnt feel any of this and it followed through until the end of the review/show.

I think just about all of the matches were a bit deserving of a higher grade than you gave it.

Very surprised with your review. All Out was def a fun and entertaining show. Easily in the “B” range or “B+” range, but “C”? Cmon now.

    • Thomas Hall says:

I wasn’t wild on the show coming in as the card wasn’t exactly thrilling. I certainly didn’t hate it and there were good parts but they could have cut out an hour, if not more.

    • Jack-Hammer says:

For the most part, I agree with KB on this. The women’s battle royal was something of a mess.

Private Party vs Jack Evans & Angelic was a flippy flip match that meant nothing.

I give Omega vs. Pac an A- for the upset win and the fact it’s nice to get an Omega match under half an hour in length for a change. But as far as the KB’s criticisms of Omega, I think they’re spot on.

The triple threat “Cracker Barrell” stuff was pretty fun, I gave it a C+ but it just felt like a match on the show for the sake of having a match. Hopefully, this is one of those things that’ll help be cleared up by 2 hours of TV each week.

The Dark Order vs. the Best Friends just strike me as a couple of generic, mid-card tag teams. One tries to be kinda funny, one tries to be knda edgy and neither one really manages to pull it off.

Hikaru Shida vs. Riho was a C in my eyes. As of right now, they’re just two nameless Japanese women who Kenny Omega is high on. *shrugs* They worked well, it’s just I’ve no reason to give a crap one way or another right now and that’s always gonna take away from a match.

Cody vs. Shawn Spears just felt like something of a waste to me. I thought part of the reason Spears wanted to come to AEW was to prove that he could be a top guy, but he loses his debut match against someone to whom a loss would’ve mean nothing but a win for Spears would’ve been huge? Factor in all the shenanigans going around and this felt more than a little like a Shane McMahon type of situation, though they used a mix of contemporary and nostalgia so the fans ate it up.

I gave an A- to the AAA tag title ladder match. It was nothing more than the chaotic spot fest it was designed to be, no more and no less, though it’s also a reminder that these teams can be sorta reckless at times. You knew the Luchas were gonna win here, which didn’t hurt the match because, as I said, this was all about spots.

Adam Page vs. Chris Jericho was a bout I gave a C+ to as well. Some drama was needed in a match like this, some suspense that left you wondering or thinking maybe the outcome wasn’t so certain, and it didn’t have that. I think putting the title on Jericho first is the right thing to do, I’m just not sure Page was the right opponent. I mean, when it comes to the guys Page ran around with in New Japan/ROH like Cody, Omega, the Bucks and Ibushi, Page feels like a hanger on and he’s become more great by association rather than accomplishing anything on his own.

I think a C+ to B- range for this show as far as a grade is reasonable. Anything aboe that is stretching it too far in my eyes. It wasn’t a bad show by any means but it sure as hell wasn’t some epic or show of the year contender either.

  7. Sebastian says:

I think you might’ve been burnt out in general since you watched UK before this, I didn’t really feel the same complaints about the time as you did but I might’ve if I had to cover another three hours of wrestling.

Also I kind of like the Best Friends.

    • Thomas Hall says:

Very well could have been. There is a limit to how much one can take in a day without a break and today was pushing it.

    • Wim says:

That doesn’t change the fact that the show is 5 hours long. There’s never any reason for a ppv to go longer then 3 hours, plus maybe a preshow match to warm up potential buyers.

      • Sammy51 says:

A 4 hour pay per view, esp if its your biggest of the year (which it probably is for AEW) is HARDLY unreasonable.

The 1 hour preshow shouldnt be added in imho since its not really required overall.

In a world where we get 3 hour RAWs every week, people are bitching about a PPV going until midnight on a Saturday night. Cmon.

  8. BestSportsEntertainer says:

I’m glad I didn’t buy the show now.

  9. TEW says:

It was a pretty good show but it lacked that one big moment or match, and if i see anymore wrestling today ill puke.

  10. Jay H says:

I give All Out a 6.5/10 with the Ladder Match being the best Match of the night. I get having Chris Jericho be the first Champion but i think you let Adam Page sink or swim.

I agree on the length too. I think they need to take a page from WWE and start the PPVs at 7pm as they have lately.
