How in the world did the Royal Rumble match go from an A to a D? lol

I don’t believe the thought that WWE had planned it all out in advance and Bryan going to the Main Event of WM was already planned and Orton vs. Batista was never happening. Here’s why I think that argument doesn’t hold true :

    1. WWE could not have possibly predicted this level of fan backlash on Batista winning the Rumble. For WWE to plan out the storyline that Bryan would lead a fan movement to take him to WM, they would have also had to expect that fans would start a movement in the first place. How could they have expected the fans would boo the shit out of Batista throughout the WM season. What if the fans embraced Batista? Then what would have WWE done.

    2. Punk had still not quit. The plan for Wrestlemania prior to the Rumble was indeed HHH vs Punk. Punk quitting changed a LOT of the plans for Wrestlemania and I believe is a key factor that propelled Bryan to the main event. If WWE had planned out that Bryan would face HHH at Mania and then compete in the triple threat, where would have that left Punk, who at that time nobody had thought would leave the company? It had been Punk vs The Authority upto the Rumble and Bryan was not in the picture at the point. So all signs pointed to HHH vs Punk.

    3. Bryan was in the opening match of the pay-per view and lost CLEAN. And then was nowhere to be seen in the Rumble. That does not seem like the kind of booking the man destined to win the championship at Mania would receive.

    4. Last but not least, Bryan has himself admitted 2 weeks ago that he was indeed gonna face Sheamus at Mania. And I think this was also said by someone around Summerslam as well. Perhaps Sheamus himself. Or maybe Punk in his podcast.

TL;DR The booking of the Rumble did not point to Bryan main-eventing at Mania. In hindsight it would all seem that it was planned, but that is the benefit of hindsight.

Honestly, only aspects of the Rumble match were terrible (exclusion of Daniel Bryan, JBL). The match itself had a decent flow to it, made Roman Reigns look like a star, and had elements about it that made it an all-around entertaining match. I think a D grade is unfair myself, but hey, I respect your opinion.

I finished off my Royal Rumble binge watching with this one and I maintain its not a bad Show but Batista winning the Rumble is still a bad call. Now granted things would change in the next two months leading to WM 30 but look at the huge reaction Daniel Bryan gets on this night alone. How did they not call an audible and give Bryan the Rumble win still blows my mind.

I believe a week ago, Daniel Bryan said that he was indeed supposed to face Sheamus at Wrestlemania 30.

I still think the Orton v Cena match was terribly planned out. The crowd was rowdy as hell and already against the match so why on earth would you open it at the snails pace that they did? It just opens the floodgates for the crowd to shit all over it.

Yeah but at least it didn’t last long.

      • M says:

Yeah but I still can’t fathom how two people who have been on top for so long wouldn’t have figured out that starting a match like that in that environment was a terrible idea. Like how can they be that oblivious to the crowd around them?

  7. Vega says:

The old grades are missing in the comparison. With that said and knowing them: Now, that’s more like it!
