Outstanding match, and the last great one of Austin’s career.”

Isn’t the no mercy match also really good?

Rating: C. I think I remember hating this one before, but it makes sense in context. No one was expecting Undertaker and Kane to have trouble with these two goons and that’s what happened here. This should have been a squash, both for the sake of who was in there and the story they were telling. It wasn’t a competitive match, but why should it have been? Who in the world is supposed to be able to hang with Undertaker and Kane in a cage anyway?”

WWE bias showing, this was a really obvious example of WWF burying wcw/Invasion and a big reason why nobody cared about this angle. DDP was a big star in WCW who was made to look even or at the same level with Sting, Goldberg, Hogan, Savage, etc. He was actually a main event star so instead of doing that during invasion, with one of the few people they had who people actually recognized, they buried him by having stalk Taker’s wife (which doesn’t make any sense because Kimberly Page is a million times hotter than Sara), had him get buried by Taker and Kane a million times and even had him get beat up by Sara. Scott Keith said something in his review of this saying it was because DDP was a dick backstage but I have no idea what he’s referring to. Either way this was awful and if they were going to bury DDP why even extend this feud out and waste it on ppv time? Shouldn’t some other WCW team (kronik maybe) get a rub from being able to hang with Taker/Kane in a cage match instead of wasting a cage match with a squash? Also to your question of who could do well with Taker/Kane in a cage I don’t think WWE would bury any of their teams so badly in such a squash. In the same year of 01 we’d already seen Austin/Trips vs brothers, Dudleys vs brothers, E and C vs brothers and Hardys vs brothers. In none of those matches were they squashed as badly as DDP and kanyon here other than maybe E and C in 2000 to build up to a title match but that was on Raw and not ppv so it was much more excusable.

“That’s enough for Page to hit a low blow into an X Factor to retain/win.”

I didn’t realize ddp was in the match lol

I was going to say this was Austins last great match as I was reading through the review but you beat me to it KB.
