“Rating: A-. Outstanding stuff here, with Punk surviving everything Gunther threw at him and finally coming out on top after all of the violence. That’s what this should have been, with Gunther winning the title back felt like a way to transition it to someone else. This is the kind of win that Punk needed at some point, as you can only talk about being the best in the world for so long before you need to actually win something. That’s what we got here and it was after a heck of a match against a monster like Gunther.”

Are you serious dude? Did I watch a different match than everyone else? Punk looked gassed the entire match, his comebacks were slow af. He’d hit a move and then have to stop to breathe. It was like a shitty horrible slow mo version of Lesnar/Punk. Embarrassing.

Punk didn’t even really have a good comeback either, he just got beat up the whole match and then tripped walter on the table and walter bladed a lot and then Punk was able to win.

He’s comebacks looked slow because he’d had his ass beat for near on 30 minutes.

“Tripped on the table then he bladed a lot”

Well you need to allow yourself to enjoy the product, in the story he obviously bust his head on the table. Don’t mix reality and the story, you’ll enjoy it more

And compare this match to him vs Lesnar at summerslam 2013. Punks comebacks were still fast and snappy regardless of the fact that he got his ass beat, this didn’t feel like he was selling being hurt it legit felt like he was gassed and has bad conditioning. Its probably because, especially in comparison to his AEW run, he never (or VERY rarely) wrestles on the weeklies because WWE won’t let him do so because they’re afraid he’s going to get injured so his in ring cardio isn’t very good. While I enjoyed the Seth matches and the triple threat at mania I think that Seth was carrying and that Punk works better in like 10-15 minute matches than 30 minutes. Also you could compare this to Bryan/Lesnar at survivor series 2018, bryan got his ass beat too but his comebacks and moves were still extremely fast because he was finally able to take advantage after hitting Lesnar in the balls. Again it didn’t seem to me like Punk was selling it seemed like he was gassed which is especially embarrassing because Walter was the one carrying the bulk of the match.

The last time we saw it was in Punk/Drew HITC I think and before that Cody/AJ. The blood was obviously smoke and mirrors to make that crash on the table look more brutal because otherwise people would be like wtf why is walter so hurt from just tripping on the table? And because its so rare to see it has an effect of making whoever does blade look extremely hurt so yeah it directly impacted the match. Without the blading the spot wouldn’t have had the same impact.
