This show was where the WWE presentation really came in strong. The show felt like a showcase for WWE wrestlers and a lot of fudging the facts to give AAA a history it never really cared about.

    > The win gives Flammer the record for longest reign in the title’s history, which is quite the accomplishment.

Is it? It’s a 27 year old title usually defended like twice a year. I was listening to the Spanish commentary and laughing listening to it because even they didn’t seem to believe it. Titles don’t matter much in lucha.

But I’m all for WWE treating the titles seriously. It’s different and gives the Mexican WWE fans what they want. It’s an easy way to give matches prestige.

Rey de Reyes has been a lot of things over the years. Some years it’s been important and some years it’s been wacky sideshows.

This was another pleasant change by making it into something meaningful with actual stakes.

What I did not like was the actual luchadores being a footnote to the Americano stuff. They disappeared for like 10 minutes and the two luchadores had to kill time so they could wait to lose.

And the championship match…why was Vikingo even there at all?

The problem I have with AAA is there’s almost no lucha. It’s made for the Mexican WWE fan and that’s fine, but they didn’t need to buy out AAA, as bad as it was.
