I just read your column. There are a few things I’d add:

– Mexican fans love kayfabe. As a result, they really respond to things. Lucha is almost always a party atmosphere.
– El Grande really benefited from WWE messing up and telling everyone Vikingo was going to beat Alberto before that match happened. It broke kayfabe on the only story AAA had been telling for over a year.
– El Grande taking lucha seriously really helped him get over.
– AAA is seen as the WWE in Mexico and WWE Mexican fans are thrilled to have their own WWE feud.

None of this is to take away from a story that’s really working and the incredible rise of El Grande. He’s a genuine hero.
